May-29-02, 10:14 AM (EDT) "Allowing the player to manually change switches on an activity" I am trying to make an activity where a player needs to make switch decisions to get to a certain track. In the activity editor, it seems that you can only laydown a player path where you already determine which way the switches are switched. I would like to, instead, allow the player to manually switch these as they get to them - the player needs to make the correct decision on his own.Is this possible? Am I missing something when I set-up the player path? Thanks for any help that you can give me!

http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/4993.htmlI've been doing most of my switching activity on the IC2 Route where I believe all of the switches are manual. <g>Perhaps one of the activity wizards like Rich Garber or Longhairedwizard will see this and chime in with some ideas.Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Allowing the player to manually change switches on an activity" Hi Curys!I created an freight activity for the USA-NNJ where the player have to do all the switching job. So it can be done!I put the starting point on a siding (in fact on a dock), a reverse point and then the ending point into another siding not far away. The engineer has to reverse the locos into another siding to pick the first cars. The only paths are for the AI trains! The USA_NNJ is excellent for such activities!Haraldh F Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

May-29-02, 05:27 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Allowing the player to manually change switches on an activity" I have had similar problems. It seems to have to do with how the route is designed. For instance, I seem to have no problems when designing a switching activity for Marias 3 but impossible for NEC V1. So I think it has to do with how the switches were set up originally ie: auto or manual. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I've been doing switching activities in the Columbia Falls-Kalispell area and have noted numerous (over a dozen)automatic switches in that area alone in version 1 and 4 or 5 autos in marias3.
A path must be plotted through these auto switches.
I found that because there are so many in version 1 that the designer might as well plot out the entire path, but marias3 allows a great deal more leeway for manual switching and limited path work.
I do wonder why the author of Marias3 didn't make all the switches manual?
Regards,
Denny

"RE: Allowing the player to manually change switches on an activity" If you make all the switches manual it is very difficult to have any AI traffic - as the AI dispatcher cannot adjust manual switches, only automatic ones. IMHO it is best to have auto switches on the main line, and manual ones in sidings. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
