Wanting to pack up an activity I noticed that it does not work properly. I click the button and it puts this packed file up, only 1KB small, so was wondering about it already.
When I tried to open it again, it onle seems to consist of the activity file, not the others.
It gives me this message: Expect more files, package damaged.
Anybody knows what to do about that?
I tried a few times, always the same.
Would appreciate hearing any solution.
Thanks,
ted.

RE: Packager gone haywire

It seems to me that:1. It might be something with the downloading. If you re-download it, is it the same?2. The package could be wrongly uploaded. If so, there is nothing we can do about it! Especiallay as there seems to be no text-file! A text-file sometimes (but not always) has some address to refer to. Then you could tell someone about it!But just a single consist file... No!Haraldh F

RE: Packager gone haywire

Sorry Ted!During the time between reading your message and answering it, I forgot:You said that you had already tried it several times! It was an activity file, not a consist file!!This might have something to do with age, I suppose! But, will you tell me where you found that failing package, what is the name of it and maybe you even know what route it is an activity for? Then I will try, and hopefully, to be of some help!Haraldh

LAST EDITED ON May-26-02 AT 11:52 AM (EDT)I have this same problem with the East Metro route. For some reason I can not use the packager with this route. What I would do is name all my consists, service files, paths, traffic files, and so forth a name I can remember. Then I take the .act file, along with the other files, and copy them to a new folder. Then I zip it. Take a look at my activity, "Krenshaw Peddler" to see what I mean.Joe

RE: Packager gone haywire

Harald and Joe,
Thanks for answering.
Harald, it is not a downloaded folder. I made this myself for the PO&Nv5. I can not package it.
Joe, I will look at your Krenshaw Peddler. I think I might have the same problem. I thought already about uploading it as just a zip file, not a packed one.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Ted.

RE: Packager gone haywire

Hi Joe!Did you install all five (5) files needed for E Metro RR? They are: emrrv11.zip, emrr.zip, em-real2.zip, retmet2.zip and retmetv2.zipI have all those installed. And when I tried to install an Activity some minutes ago, I didn´t face any problems!Just a thought,Haraldh

RE: Packager gone haywire

Harald,
It's the other way around.
Joe and I are talking about packing, not un-packing a file with the activity packager. It does not work, for some mysterious reason.
And Joe,
I have a few "loose consists" in mine. Do they have to be bundled up too, or not. They are just origional ms car files.
Thank you both,
Ted

Rhennar, you don't have to include them unless you use the loose consists in your activity. They would be a waste of space otherwise.Tsharaldh, to answer your question, yes I have all the add-ons for the E. Metro route and I had no trouble installing any of them. I can't thank Rich and the other designers enough for providing us with such a nice route. I would have stopped playing MSTS a long time ago without people like them.Joe

RE: Packager gone haywire

OK! Sorry for misunderstanding you! When I want to pack a created activity, I first save it (if I have made any recent changes), then I run the "compute and save" and finally I create the activity file (.apk)It has always worked for me doing it in that order!Haraldh

RE: Packager gone haywire

Harald,It used to work for me too, but lately it doesn't anymore.
I don't know why not, unless it has something to do with the MS
disk defragger. those things seem to creep up whenever I use the defrag, which is once a week.Ted.

>HaraldhI'm very interested in this Packaging problem. I have just finished developing a very, very complex Activity for the EMRR and, unfortunately, in the early stages did not use a unique identity code for my special stuff. So, to go thru all the folders and pick out my stuff to package in a zip folder would be a hassle. For this reason I would like for the Packager to work as it should. The one thing I have not tried in trying to use the Packager is the "Compute and Save" function. The one time I used it (during the development of the Activity) it took all my consists away in the 2D view and I had to go to the trouble of going into the Registry and making the necessary changes. So, exactly what is the "Compute and Save" supposed to do? And, do you always have success with it on the EMRR in packaging Activities?Jack D.

RE: Packager gone haywire

I too cannot package activites on certain routes (the East metro in particular). I have not, to date, found a solution other than to manually package up all the necessary files. This is not as bad as you think once you do it once or twice. I suggest doing what I do though....Name all files with a certain easily identifiable prefix, such as "RM_HMT1 Player service" and "RM_HMT1 Traffic 1 path", ETC......Try my RetroMetro HotMetaltrain activity to see how the files were named and how they can be put in a series of folders so that when you drag the Program files folder onto the C: drive (or whatevee drive msts is on) then you just click "yes" to "overwrite" and all the files will get correctly placed in their respective locations. You will NOT actually overwrite any files, you will just be adding files and folder to already existing folders.I've even been considering suppling both a "stacked" file (as described above) AND an .apk file so people can use the unpacker or if theirs wont work (even with the TSunpack fix), then they can use the "stacked" folder dragged onto their C: drive.Longhairedwizard

RE: Packager gone haywire

LHW,Yes, that seems to be the only way.
I did that finally too.
This Compute and Save thing I don't use much. It is supposed to make it easier for the program to find things, but I did not see much, if any, difference.Ted.
