I made a simple activity for MP3 so I can do local switching. The dispatcher won't let me past some of the red signals. He keeps saying "permission denied". Some signals I can get by. Others I can't get by. I am not running any AI trains. Any solutions? Thanks for your help.Alan
Alan, You've asked a question about a very puzzling situation in MSTS, at least to me! What runs the "red signals". I wish it were as easy as- "I'm in a block-no one else can come in". period. or "Some one else is in a block, I can't go in!" thats part of it. but it's more. Part of the issue seems to be that you need an action within a block in order to be allowed in there. Try that. Create any kind of event in the block that you can't get into, then try to get in. And let us know if it works. Your certain you don't have an AI path in those blocks you can't get in? It does seem to hold that the player path will trigger AI's coming into the same block that the player is in. I'm still not sure whether it's the player tripping reverse points or passing over certain switch points that will trigger it OR that it's the trigger of an action that causes the AI to start into the same block. I'd be very interested to hear more from my fellow activity makers on this situation. Regards, Denny http://hometown.aol.com/nectrackteam/main.html
One thing that sometimes works for me is to back up a little farther away from the signal, and then again ask for permission. Sometimes I have to back up half a mile, and it only works maybe 20% of the time. If anybody has a better answer, please post.
Futhermore...If I have made something wrong somewhere in the editor, I always end up with a red light, often the first one available ahead of the mistake. Those occasions always result in an unjustified red signal. No AI train - thus no blocking, still a red signal.Mostly I have made a reverse point with a too narrow distance, thus not letting my consist get enough space between the switch and the reverse point! If this is the case, use the zoom function in the editor on your consist and try to measure the length of it. Then do the same with the distance between the switch and the reverse point. There must be enough room for the consist!!! This has happened to me that I hadn´t consider the proper length of the consist - including the loco/s!!!This seems to be of absolute importance for the distance before starting going backwards. On the siding, it´s often enough to place the second reverse point in the middle or beyond the middle of the siding! These things I have learned from my own experience. It happened rather often that I got a red signal without knowing why. Then I read some posting on it and found out that this was exactly the mistake I had made!! Good luck!Haraldh F
