I have installed ORRR-1145. After about 12-15 minutes of running, my train derails. I have not depassed the speed limit at any time before that moment and the derailment happens in a straight track.I have tried the activity twice and I derailed twice exactly in the same spot.It looks to me some like a problem in the route track.Has anybody experimented the same problem?

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

It might be a coupler issue with a particular peice of rolling stock. Is this only with a particular consist in a particular activity? Longhairedwizard

LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-02 AT 09:33 AM (EDT)Wizard,It's the player consist at the ORRR1145 activity. It seems to have stock materiel plus (I think) a few addon hoppers. However, but by how the derailment looks it is happening in one of the middle stock freight cars.>It might be a coupler issue

RG,What you mean by Xtracks? Crossings? There is no crossing where the derailment happens, and I don't rememeber there is one during the path of that activity (from McConnelsville to north, i would say middle way to Limestone Fun). It happens in a straight track and it happened around 40 mph speed. Ah! And the train is a middle sized train pulled by a Dash9.I have passed that spot in another activity going south (I think in your tutorials activities). This time it was going north.SkyRat must have tested his activity without finding that problem. Maybe it's my installation, maybe not.>This has been an issue with

Kevin,
Is R. Garber who ask me about the Xtracks. He's the author of the route >O&WV does not use xtracks.

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

It is not used in the route, but if you installed the Hoboken route IT has xtracks and if you ran the program on the other routes it would effect the O&WV.Kevin Arceneaux

Kevin,I got lost here. I really don't know what are those Xtracks for.Besides WV&O, I have all the default, EMRR, Central Wisconsin, Marias3, Seattle, the Spanish routes Central railroad and the Pobla.

Then you don't have a xtracks problem. Where exactly is it happening, that would go a long to try to figure it out.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

Alot of folks have had similar problems with default stuff on the original Marias pass route. Their trains would split or derail at various points along the MP. I believe It may have had something to do with Over-road-crossings. I suggest doing a search through the forums for some of these posts (they are amont the earliest post and will be archived most likely)maybe that would help shed some light on the problem.Longhairedwizard

Yes, I remember this. I remember a night train derailing from Shelby to the west. I heard somewhere this was fixed in some custom Marias upgrade (not Marias3).
I have to check the MS upgrade readme. I think I read also that it fixes something related.

I have to rebuild my run into the activity and precise exactly where it happens. As I said before this is more or less 12-15 minutes after leaving McConnesville, and it happened in the same spot, so my main suspect is something in the route and not the activity.
For the moment, I have a picture taken in my last derailment.

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

I proceeded to try to nail the spot where I was derailing, and as expected with Murphy's law, the train did not derail this time :_), so I continued with the activity up to Zannesville. Not finished yet, but close to.

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

I had the same problem that you did, I believe. It happens as you are heading into the 1st passing siding in the activity (I think it is the first passing siding you come to) I found that going through the turnout below 20 mph solved the problem. My two derailments happened in the main line 12-15 minutes after start up. It wasn't a siding. The fact you experimented it elsewhere may mean that there is a coupling problem in some of the cars of the consist.Nevertheless, I couldn't end the activity, due to the signal at Paper Mill (when going out). Neither the signal there or at the siding that is beyond (I tried that one by restarting a saved activity), allowed me to proceed.

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

My (limited) understanding of the Route Editor leads me to believe you are experiencing a place where dynamic track meets sectional track and is not lined up close enough. Sniper has posted a couple times regarding this issue. Sometimes the track overlaps too much, sometimes there is a vertical mis-match, and sometimes horizontal mis-match. I'm sure if you could nail down the area Rich would take a look at it. Try to get a good screen shot of the track from an angle that shows the problem if you can find it.You could increase the coupler values, but then your couplers would never break, which would make the Simulator less realistic. I used the stronger coupler values early on, but decided I didn't like them when every time I had a derailment the train stayed completely coupled as it rolled down a hill, etc... It would be better to have the track fixed if that is possible.Mike

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

I have run this activity 3 or 4 times from the beginning and make it to Zanesville without any problems at all. I and using coupler values of 3 that allow for some coupler breakage but not all the problems associated with the MSTS values.I will say I tend to run the activities by some real railroad practices (15 MPH in the yards and 20 MPH through any crossovers or entry into or out of passing sidings. I know that is at odds with Skyrats activity design - but that is my choice.Have not switched in Zanesville yet, but will do so over the weekend and post my findings on the red at the end of the activity.Ken

RE: ORRR-1145 activity derailment - Ohio and West Virginia

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finished this great activity (as usual off schedule - but that's another post) and the only thing I noticed about coming out of the paper comapany is that when you couple to the 4 loads there you have to back up another 1/2 car length or so to get the reverse arrow to disappear. That may be why the other poster kept getting the red there.Ken
