Jul-13-01, 01:15 AM (EST) 2. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" I think the answer to your question is that when meeting an oncoming train, the engineer is supposed to dim the headlights, just like turning off your brights when meeting an oncoming car. The next time you see a real train in the hole take a look and you should see that his lights are dimmed. Since most of the times that we see AI trains is when we are meeting them I think this explains it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Without them, the game would be pretty boring eh ?Regards...Jim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-14-01, 00:16 AM (EST) 6. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" oh whats in a name! you all knew what i meant. do you think the sim has been programmed that well that the oncomings dim their lights to us? i'll do a short night activity and get back to you here. i am noticing speed differences in the freights during day versus night. Jul-16-01, 02:15 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Yes, headlights on AI trains" Hi guys, the answers you seek are in the .eng file and the lighting document. Don't worry though. I'm on the case and will soon have .eng files for all default US locomotives to fix what light problems are possible and Make those AI engineers use there headlights night and day. I did put up a file for the drivable genesis that does this already its under the locomotives section. I've finished the dash9 and am now working on the GP and the SD .I will then work on the NEC electrics. I have added some cool stuff like better highbeam/lowbeam effects and lighted number boards. These will also be included in a loco physics update. Yes in real life you should dim your lights when sitting on a siding or passing another train. Engineers check out each others trains for smoking bearings and dragging equipment so you don't want to blind them first. Come on, these AI engineers can barely follow the rules as it is. Put one following you in an activity and first chance he gets he'll ram you right off the rails. They sure as heck won't dim there lights for you. I will make them at least use the damned things in the near future. Just watch the file section and I'll crank 'em out as fast as I can. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-16-01, 11:46 PM (EST) 8. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" I have reprogrammed all of of my .wag files and diesel .eng files to provide trains in AI mode with headlights and end of train warning lights. Since Dokkensound has posted that he plans to upload his fixes for all of the .eng files for default engines, I will limit my uploads to only the .wag files and skin specific light sections of .eng files I have modified. What I mean by skin specific is that not all engines have their lights or number boards in the same locations. So often I have had to tweak the lights section to suit a specific engine. For instance the Amtrak Dash 9 does not have it's headlights in the same location as the default BNSF Dash 9. The CSX Dash 9 has it's number boards on the low hood, not to mention the differences on the SD90Mac or the SD-40's which again vary depending on road skin. Some of the cars like the very well done Superliner's don't by default have any of their end of train lights enabled, let alone for an AI train.I have found that for the AI trains it works best to set their lights to bright, it may not be true prototype but it does make them show up and noticeable. I will probally be uploading my files at the end of this week, ( I need to make time to write the readme files and package them). Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-17-01, 00:18 AM (EST) 9. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" Well Done Dgauci,Funny I have already sent a lightfix and AI patch to 3dtrainstuff for the Amtrak Dash9. There are a lot of bugs and problems in the lighting conditions I hope get fixed. I should be able to use the Couple condition to add a warning light to each end of a locomotive and make it turn on just on the rear but nooooooo, The unit condition superceeds it and you get a warning light on both ends. Same with the headlights. Should be able to make a loco running long hood forward use only that headlight but this weird prioritizing of the conditions makes it impossible. I am making the AI engines run highbeam and number boards only if there in service ie A static consist added to a siding with no path will be dark. I'll focus on the default engines right now. Almost done with the GP tonight just a few more tweaks and the SD-40 land tomorrow. After that I'm headed for the NE corridor. Someone has done the Acela and HH8 already so I'll just add the AI section. Maybe we can tag team later on some of the skin specific lights. I want to try and do complete .eng files for all the add ons to make it as simple as possible for the Technologicly Challenged. Lets talk further about this. Jul-17-01, 11:52 PM (EST) 10. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" I don't want to duplicate my work effort with a project you are already doing, if you want I can email you my .eng files with the lighting fixes and modifications for the various engines and skins for you to use however you want in your current project. I will focus instead on uploading the modified .wag and support files for the freight and Superliner cars. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-18-01, 00:49 AM (EST) 11. "RE: No headlights on AI trains" The BNSF engines are already done and uploaded. Should be in the file download tomorrow or the next day. Fell free to check 'em out and see if you found a way to do any of it better, we can combine them for a version 2.0 release. I'm takin a couple o' days just to play instead of fixing stuff. Next I'll see whats left to fix on NEC. If I get caught up I'll help with the wags. I wanna add the brake tweeks to everything anyway. Lets chat .
