Dec-31-01, 09:58 AM (EST) "Freight or passenger setting?" I have just started to build activities. I manged to make a simple on with some AI trains. I have one problem the max speed is shown to be 70 mph. My activity is between Coram and Belton (on Marias Pass 3.0) and I would like to have the correct speed limit shown. The correct speed would be 60 for passenger and 50 for freight according to the time table that was included with the down load. How can I get the correct speed limits?Where do I tell the editor if I'm running a freight or passenger train?I have looked through all setings in the editor and look into the different files for consists, services and paths without finding the answer.Roland Levin Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-31-01, 01:35 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-01 AT 01:38 PM (EST)I've been doing someresearch on this alo and have yet to come up to come up with a resolution.I created a passenger activity in MP3 and it runs obeying all freight speed limits. If you come up with a way to get the passenger trains to obey the speed limit set for passenger trains let me know......By the way you can go in to the properties of each route and adjust the speed limits. You do this by going into the route editor, select the Marias Pass 3.0,go to the upper left corner and click on files then click on properties. Dec-31-01, 07:12 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" The speed limits go by the engine not your consist. i.e. if your driving the Dash 9 with a passenger consist the game sees that as a freight because the Dash is a freight locomotive. If you use the Genesis or any diesels made here it will look at both as it does not know if its a freight or passenger locomtive. i.e. if you get a GP9 and you put the Acela cars on it it will see a passenger train and give you the passenger train limit. also if you make a train with 20 intermodals and a GP9 it will see it sa a freight and give you the freight speeds. It looks at the loco and consist but for some locos it will just see the loco as a freight even if its hauling a passenger train. If I'm not mistaken that if your train has passenger station stops it will see it as a passenger train even with the dash. the reason is because a freight train doesn't stop at a station. though in real life they make a few stops occasionally to freight stations but its not common. Dec-31-01, 08:21 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" Well, I've made activities involving shunting Amfleet and Superliner cars around using the Dash 9, without stopping at a single station, and it gave me the appropriate speed limits for a passenger consist. So I don't think it is the loco that determines the type of consist, but the cars and wagons (there is a line in the .wag file which determines whether it is freight or passenger). This is for the player train - if the original post was referring to AI trains, then I have read in here before that they are known to exhibit rather "unique" behavior when it comes to speed limits! They seem to do their own thing, from what I've read here... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-01-02, 11:47 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" Well I made a consist using the amtrak f45 and passenger cars and the sims gives me freight speeds. What line or lines do I need to modify in the eng or wag files. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-01-02, 02:27 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" Did you start out with the passenger cars attached or was it part of the activity to go and pick them up? Perhaps this confuses the game as to what speed limits to give you. A good test would be to make an activity that starts with a solitary loco, and then involves picking up various passenger and freight cars, to see if the speed limit changed appropriately. What passenger cars were you using - were they standard? I've messed about with passenger cars a fair bit on Marias (since I'm not that keen on freight activities) and have always got the appropriate speed limits (as far as I can remember, anyway!)...The line in the wag file is the one near the top that saysType ( Carriage )for a passenger car andType ( Freight )for a freight car.Perhaps you might check these for the cars in your consist. Also, if you're using downloaded HEP cars or baggage vans (based upon default box vans) at the head of your passenger cars then these might be classified as freight wagons, hence the freight speed limits.Hope I'm not leading you up the wrong garden path here! I'd just be surprised if it has anything to do with the loco since there is nothing in the .eng file to signify whether the loco was designed for freight or passenger use.TAfan Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-01-02, 11:47 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" why not just make the default speed for that AI train 50 mph using the activity editor. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 12:22 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Freight or passenger setting?" Had to go in the wag files and change freight to passenger to get passenger speeds. Now I'm cruising right long with the big boys now.... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
