Jun-19-01, 02:17 AM (EST) "Creating a electric loco consist differs from a diesel..whats wrong?" I followed the procedures below OK for creating a consist to add a new Diesel Loco and I have no problems with adding Diesels.
When I come to add one for an Electric Loco using the same procedure it tells me (after I save and exit the Consist Editor and click on OK in the Service Editor) that this section of line is without overhead power ! What steps do I have to change in the following instructions for Electrics? (I presume the Explore Route is correct ...but is "Whitefish - Shelby" the wrong one for an Electric Loco ??
Adding a new consist to "Explore"1. Unzip the new files into a new directory in the "Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset" folder
2. Click on the "Start" button on taskbar and scroll up to "Programs/Microsoft Games/Train Simiulator/Editor and Tools".
Click on "Editor and Tools" and select Activity Editor
3. In the Activity Editor:
. Open the Activity editor and once it opens go to file and click open.
. Open USA2 for Marias Pass.
. Open ACTIVITES and you will find "itr_e1_s1_w1_t1.act". This is the EXPLORE ROUTE file. Double click it.
. Now on the right side of the window click on the down arrow next to "Player Service"
. Scroll down until you see "Whitefish - Shelby" and click on it.
. Click the Edit button under "Player Service".
. A window will appear on the Left. Click the "New" button under "Consist".
. Go to the drop list in the middle and select Engines(Diesel) the list should have your new locomotive.
. Double click on the Name and it will appear in the blue box. Right clicking it will change its direction.
. Other locomotives and rolling stock can be added as well.
. In the upper left corner, enter a "Name" and a "Display Name".
. Click on "Save & Exit"
. Click on OK Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

First the Marias route is not electrified so you cant run an electric loco on it....unless you use the route editor to electrify it. There are no gantries defined for the route so you need to use the new microsoft antigravity supported cantenary wire. You get this stuff by opening the route editor and then clicking on ROUTE PROPERTIES. In the pop-up menu that appears there is a button for ELECTRIFIED TRACK. Click this button and set the wire height to 7.23 meters. Close the menu and save the changes. You will now be able to run the Acela Express and other electric locos over the route. I don't think there is a way to electrify portions of the route.
I have not figured a way to get gantries into the route. I tried many times and ended up re-installing the sim at least 10 times over the past three weeks.
This KUJU editor really sucks big time. We really need better tools. Bill Gates, are you listening? Right now with my frustration level running at about 96% I would gladly lay out $50 bucks for a decent editor that WORKS!
