Dec-21-01, 00:18 AM (EST) "Package Acitity Requirements" O.K. I'm at a loss here! I recently uploaded my 1st activity for EMRR Deluxe version. The activity of course runs fine on my computer. The activity requires 4 cars which can be found on this site.So I packaged the activity and sent it off here. I was under
the impression that it would be screened before hand, and in 2
days it showed up. I was pleased to see that at that point 100 downloads where completed. Now I only received 1 email from someone who had the package fail because it was either damaged or looking for more files. I was hoping it was just a bad download or something. As it turns out there are at least a few people that have experienced problems, and I've yet to hear 1 person have it work. I would then assume the file is garbage.Question - Is there anything I did wrong, or is there something I'm missing here? Is there someone who got this activity to work? I'm afraid to try again, unless I know for sure what I'm doing here. ThanksSean Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-21-01, 09:41 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Package Acitity Requirements" Sean,Naahhh... you didn't do anything wrong. What you could do is package the activity in a zip file though. Takes more work on your part to get it right but most folks have success with the zip than they do with the unpacker. I can't get the unpacker to work either. I don't know how the other folks pack up their activities but alot of folks have problems with the unpacker because there's a bug in it or something. Something to do with the registry I believe. There's a fix in the upload section. Also, this forum is relatively quiet compared to most of the others. You should probably post an announcement about the activity in the MSTS forum. This is more of a how to do this, or that type forum. Finally, alot of times you don't get much feedback or any... depending on what it is. Once in a while you see an activity get feedback. Same with tutorials. Routes get lots of feedback. Engines gets alot of feedback. Some freight cars get some feedback but usually little. Alot of stuff gets downloaded but that doesn't mean it gets used right a way. You have to keep it up to gain some notariety where people will speak up and say something about what you've done. IMO. Dec-22-01, 07:31 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Package Acitity Requirements" Well unfortunately they are ALL correct. To test my package I made a backup of my activity. For me to unpack activities I have to drop the activity into the UNPACK Icon in the MSTS UTIL directory. The results where it
sees that I have two consists already in there and asks if I want to overwrite (I used unique names for the consists in this package, so others won't see it but me). Right after that the message comes up saying it failed to unpack, expecting more files, package damaged etc. etc.I beleive I tried redoing the package activity with the same results. This is very disapointing considering I seemed to have a good handle on getting trains to meet, and using the holding points etc. Any idea on this one? ThanksSeanP.S. I'm not sure how, but the activity should be removed from this system. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Package Acitity Requirements" LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-01 AT 07:10 AM (EST)Did you try it yourself with your original, or a version you downloaded?<later> I've just managed to get into the file area and download your file. I don't have the EMRR yet though, so can't test it yet, but I wonder if the long file names are upsetting it. Have you tried renaming the activity to something shorter, and dragging that onto tsunpack. (Actually the way I install is to double-click the file - I fixed the registry entries so this works. You can download a program to do that from the files here, tsunpack.zip.)Did you upload the zip, or just the apk file? Another thought is, if in the latter case, it was uploaded as ascii rather than binary, which would corrupt it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-23-01, 05:50 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Package Acitity Requirements" I haven't tried renaming to the shorter name. I'll give that a try. I used the packages on my computer that still gave me problems, so it wasn't the upload.I'll keep you posted.ThanksSean Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-01-02, 11:30 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Package Acitity Requirements" Well I tried using the 8 characters or less, still no go.I've also ran the registry updates with the following results:It couldn't update all my registry, however I can now unpack activity by double clicking on them instead of dragging to the unpacker in the util driectory.I wonder if XP has something to do with it? If anyone else has ran into this problem and has a solution let me know, because I'd like to share my activity without zipping files!ThanksSean Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
