Jun-04-01, 06:01 PM (EST) "Problem with Activity Packager??" LAST EDITED ON Jun-04-01 AT 06:34 PM (EST)
I have built a new activity, with all the associated files, etc. I have tested it and it works ok (at least, for me). I used the activity editor "activity packer" to generate an .apk file. Problem is, every time I try to unpack that file, I get an error message "Failed to open package".ANOTHER UPDATE!! I fixed the download, so it's working again.FlyingVisitThe .apk file is in the zip, but if it doesn't work properly then I have also included all the other files.

Jun-04-01, 08:08 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" I downloaded and zipped your activity files and sure does sound interesting. Now that I have the 6 individual files (.act .asv .pat .srv .trf .apk) I don't know where to put them in the TS directory. Would appreciate your advise. Many thanks.Jay Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-04-01, 11:15 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" Check out the help file for the activity editor under the section titled "Activity File Location Requirements". It had the complete breakdown. Once you find the folders the first time it's easy after that.

Jun-05-01, 06:35 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" The activity packer does work. If you have not already done so, check in the help file under working with activity files. Somewhere in there it says exactly how to pack and unpack activities. Now if you had already read all of that and done it, then I would say double check to make sure everything is correct. Jun-05-01, 11:21 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" LAST EDITED ON Jun-05-01 AT 11:22 AM (EST)I double-checked and tried again, and still no joy. Does someone have an activity pack file that does work that they could post? That way I can see if the unpacker routine on my machine works properly.BTW, had anyone tried to unpack the activity pack file I posted at the top of this thread in the zip file? If they can get it to unpack that would mean my unpacker is messed up, but the packing routine is ok. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-05-01, 07:32 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" Ok, I figured out what was wrong. I right clicked on an .APK file and looked at the Properties. I noted that is is listed as type "Packaged Activity".I opened my drive C, and then went to the "View->Folder Options" menu. I clicked on the "File Types" tab and looked for the "Packaged Activity" file type. I clicked on it and chose "Edit". I clicked on the "open" action, and chose "Edit".For some reason, there was a garbage character in the open line:"C:\Games\Train Simulator\Utils\TSUnpack.exe" "|"instead of the correct setting, which should be"C:\Games\Train Simulator\Utils\TSUnpack.exe" "%1"As soon as I made this change, my APK files will unpack successfully! All you have to do is change the garbage character to %1Lee Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-06-01, 00:55 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" I don't even have any file extension of .APK under the folder options for file types. This may be the reason why mine works fine, who knows. I bet if you delete that file type under folder options it will work. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I added the "%1" to the end but still have the same error message. Not also the lack of uppercase in tsu ?Ya know I like to consider my self fairly savvy with computer programs. I use autocad alot, Ive figured out the course designer for links golf. But this is the most aggrivating convoluted tool Ive ever come accross.

I've tried every method discussed in this thread to open the CXS Intermodal package, and still get the "Failed to open package" error. I'm out of ideas. Anybody else got any suggestions? Jun-10-01, 02:01 AM (EST) 18. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" THE FIX WORKED FOR ME;HOWEVER, WHEN LOOKING IN YOUR FILE ASSOCIATIONS, IT IS NOT LISTED AS AN .APK FILE, OR MICROSOFT*. SCROLL DOWN YOUR LIST TO PACKAGED ACTIVITY. THEN FOLLOW THE PREVIOUS INSTRUCTIONS TO OPEN, EDIT, AND CHANGE THAT |TO %1 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-10-01, 09:36 AM (EST) 19. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" Been there, done that. However now it looks like it's a problem with a specific packaged activty, because I tried it with another activity, and that one worked. It's the CSX from 3Dstuff's site. I'd like to download a fresh copy and try again, but can't find the link the the page again. I deleted the original newsleter e-mail. Anybody else got a link to that page? Jun-06-01, 00:36 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" JZ,I tried to run the activity, but I get an error while loading it.
Looks like you put the loco files in trains\trainset\New Havengp38. Mine is in nhgp38. Looks like in the doc files for the activities we need to start to specify where things are kept. I'm going to modify my stuff now to get the activity to work.Alex Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-06-01, 06:20 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Problem with Activity Packager??" LAST EDITED ON Jun-06-01 AT 06:52 AM (EST)That's odd because I didn't do anything with loco files. I used an existing consist of the Flying Scotsman as a template and saved it as "flyingvisit.con". BTW, has anyone downloaded, installed, and actually gotten the activity to work? I really would like to get some feedback on this. Warning, you framerate may take a beating between the crowded NE corridor and all that smoke from the Scotsman. Here is the activity briefing:
"The Flying Scotsman is on a tour of the United States. This morning you will be bringing the Scotsman from Wilmington to Philadelphia.Starting off from a siding south of Wilmington you will be making a stop in Wilmington to load dignitaries. You have some high ranking VIPs on board, so try not to shake them up. They need to be in Philadelphia on time, so take the opportunity to show off the power of the Flying Scotsman!Remember that about two miles outside of Philadelphia there is a 45mph zone that doesn't appear on your track monitor until you are almost on top of it. Slow down before you get there! "

Does this mean it's working and there is a corrupted file in the CSX apt???regards
