Dec-02-01, 03:51 PM (EST) ""Green signal" problem" Hello folks! I'm doing my first activity for Marias Pass route from Shelby to Kalispell. I've already set the path for player train and put two AI trains which works fine. But then I want to make a passing event to Browning so that the player must stop to a red signal and wait until an AI train passes. But no matter what I do, I get always green light and it's always the AI train which stops somewhere at Spotted Robe and waits for me to pass. I've already tried to change the start time of AI train and played many times so that I get to Browning earlier or later... but I get always green. Is there any trick to set that it's the player train which must stop for passing? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-03-01, 08:50 AM (EST) 1. "RE: "Green signal" problem" hello. it seems to me what your saying is you want to make your train stop for a red and not the AI. i have one idea as to how you can fix this. what you have to do is make the AI train a higher priority train and you train a lower priority train. i don't know how to do this but i know you can. do a search in here for priority and see what comes up. i know its in here as i have read it before when i was searching for something else. but i must tell you do not change the player performance levels as a few people said this causes strange effects to happen. if all else fails for the search just make another post about how to make a higher priority train. i'm sure someone will answer. Dec-04-01, 11:37 AM (EST) 2. "RE: "Green signal" problem" Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to assign priority to trains. In my experience, getting the timing right is the only way to get this kind of thing to work. I believe the key is not which train gets to the meet first, but which train enters the signal block before the meet first. I haven't been playing the marias pass much, so I'm not familiar with the signal layout but I assume that it's got absolute signals at junctions/passing sidings, and permissive signals in between. Since you say the AI train stops at Spotted Robe, that's probably where that block starts. You'll need to figure out where your train's block starts (prior to Browning somewhere) and make sure that the AI train passes the absolute signal at the start of the block in Spotted Robe before your train passes the absolute signal at the start of your block leading up to Browning. As far as I can tell, once the train is first into that last block before the meet, it will have priority at the meet regardless of how slow it goes from there. If you can then arrange for your train to arrive at the meet first, it'll have to wait. I have had some sucess with AI train "player performance" to control speed, but it is pretty squirrelly. You might be better off setting some wait points to slow the AI train down. The wait time will end up at zero when you save the activity, but the act of stopping and restarting will certainly slow it down, and give you a chance to get to Browning first.Hope this helps,Steve

Dec-04-01, 01:50 PM (EST) 3. "RE: "Green signal" problem" Looks like I've found a working (?!?) solution to my problem. I
examined the "All the way west" activity which has two stops to red signal and I found out something. If the AI train uses same path which the player train will use after passing, then the player will get red signal. I tested it in my activity and now I got red in Browning and after a while the AI train came and passed. I added two trains more to show up later in activity and tried to make second red to Java and now there's new problem because the signal at Browning stays red. Probably these new trains also wants to pass me first. Or it may be because the second train (what I will wait at red in Java) has already started its journey from Columbia Falls and it also has same path until Java.Looks like this will take lots of trial and error and of course lots of time before the whole activity is done. But when (if) I get this done and working, I will upload it to this site.BTW, what's exactly the difference if I set or don't set a "Passing path" in the path editor for AI trains?

Dec-05-01, 09:54 AM (EST) 4. "RE: "Green signal" problem" Hi tohis. as for the passing path question. noone knows what thats for yet. if you look threw all the posts you will notice that noone has figured out what this is for yet. we're not sure if its a bug in the game causing it not to work right, if it just don't work, or if its for making a passing path. we only know that its uncertain what this is used for. glad to see you got the signal problem fixed. as for the staying red problem try setting the second AI train to leave say 2 minutes later than what you have it currently set for. see if that works. hope your activity comes out like you plan as i look forward to seeing it. and who knows you may figure out the problem with passing paths and we'll finally know what it means. as far as your activity is going from what i now it sounds interesting. it sounds like you have a real talent for making activities, its just the buggy editor stopping you. Good Luck. Craig Shortino Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-07-01, 07:23 AM (EST) 5. "RE: "Green signal" problem" I have probably finished the activity now. I changed my plans a little and it worked when I played the final test. I abandoned the idea of red signal in Java and changed it to another place. However, I guess it might have been worked if the second train starts its journey _after_ the first wait on red has completed.I will do a brief testing (not driving to end) on another computer to see if it installs properly. If that works, then I will upload it to train-sim.com soon. The activity name is "Evening run to Kalispell" and the file name will be ev_kal.zip.In the near future I might do other activities as well. Next I will choose the NEC route and examine if I can do something more interesting than typical "Washington-Philly-Acela-Express-yellow-signals-only" activities. Dec-13-01, 06:35 PM (EST) 6. "RE: "Green signal" problem" OK, I got to the second red light 1 MINUTE (the 20 minute wait) later than your suggested timetable, and now 35 minutes later still awaiting for that train... at what point do I abandon and start over?
thanks. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
