Oct-20-01, 10:23 PM (EST) "I Was Arrested by Union Pacific Police!!!!!!! " Well, it seems that our free nation is no longer as free as the media and our government would like for you to believe. On Tuesday, October 16th of this week I went to work at my new job. I'd finished all of my service calls except for three customers that I'd not been able to contact to schedule appointments with them for that day. I decided to stop by the foot of the Huey P. Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish right off of Central Avenue to have lunch and watch some trains while I waited for my last three customers to call me.Ever since I was a kid my father used to take me to this very spot to watch trains. Recently I began to stop by on occasion as my new job sometimes brings me near the area. Tuesday was no different than any other day but that was about to change. When I pulled up in a parking area that appeared to me to be some distrubution company for Dole Pineapple products I noticed a Causeway Police unit sitting by the foot of the bridge. "Must be increased security for terrorist threats" I remember thinking. I also had a feeling that he'd come over and see what I was up too. Well he did. I wasn't worried because as a responsible citizen I have all of my ducks in a row and if the officer had any questions I'd have honest answers for him.Well this guy calls the Union Pacific Police on me even though I'm obviously being patient and honest with him. When the UP Cop shows up he says, "What are you doing on Union Pacific property?" I said, "I wasn't aware that this was Union Pacific property! I didn't see any signs that said Union Pacific property NO TRESPASSING. I'm just sitting here watching trains while I eat my lunch." And I said it calmly and matter of factly as well. This jerk says, "Union Pacific doesn't have to have signs that say your on UP property." I said, " Sure they do if they want to warn people that they are trespassing! If I'd have known that I was trespassing I certainly wouldn't have!" He very smartassedly says," Oh ya, you think so huh? Well I'm gona show you that we don't!" and he proceeded to handcuff me and brought me to jail! Can you believe this? I spent 7 hours in jail Tuesday and was booked with "Unauthorized Use of Railroad Property." I know for a fact that I was not on railroad property but the property of this Dole Distribution center that has a sign on it that says "FOR LEASE." This guy wrongfully arrested me. I believe they call it false arrest and you know what? I'm gonna sue the crap out of UP for this. I went back the next day and took 16 photos to show my attorney thatA. I was in the parking lot of a company that has a FOR LEASE sign on the front of the bulding and B. That their's not one sign in the area that specifies that I was infringing upon UP property and not to trespass.Have any of you guys out their had any problems like this? I can't believe this is America! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
