Oct-05-01, 02:19 PM (EST) "Broken Path fix" I don't recall this ever being posted before and if it has, sorry for the redundancy.Making a change to a route results in any path laid through the change will come up as a broken path error. Wanting to avoid these myself I wouldn't make any changes to my route unless I absolutely had to.I made some changes to the route. While redoing some paths I figured that broken path button had to do something. Well, I found out, it takes you right to the broken point (new item to add to manual). Then while messing with deleting a broken point, I noticed you could drag the broken line (represented in red). So here's the fix. From where the broken point first appears, you want to drag the red line to the nearest dot. You keep building up the path this way til you join back up with the rest of the route. So let's say as I did, I had five dots between the broken points of my path. From the first broken part of the line, I dragged the broken line to the first dot. Then I left the path editor. Came back and now that portion is a green line. So I dragged the next part to the next dot. And left again, and now it's green too. I kept doing this and the line got green til I finally had it back to normal and to my delight (not knowing this would work or not), the display in the field box no longer stigmatized the path as being broken.Something else to add to the manual.Rich Garber Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-05-01, 02:27 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Broken Path fix" Rich,Thanks for the helpful info. Earlier this week I deleted a route in progress after I changed the track arrangement and was presented with the broken path error. I thought I had messed up my route beyond repair.DOH!David Mikulec

Oct-06-01, 04:54 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Broken Path fix" Thanks! In messing with it further it does work most of the time but there are a couple of situations where it won't work. And what's even more amazing they (i.e. MS), elude to it in one of the readme's that came with msts. I was shocked to say the least. The irony though, it was only having found out this little item that I understood the reference.Don't use this with reversing points, it won't work for two reasons. One, the reversing point when fixed overlaps the broken line underneath it, and you can't grab the broken line. The readme above says because the path database is built sequentially, it won't work either. The other, which is more 50-50, is with passing paths. I've seen it work, and not work.

Oct-10-01, 04:59 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Broken Path fix" Something that really bugs me - and I hope by writing this someone can tell me I'm doing it wrong - is...You create a path, let's say from Washington to Philadelphia. I've spent hours working out which lines are best so that "express" trains will pass slower ones while not causing conflicts with oncoming "express" trains doing the same. So there are quite a lot of crossing over points and changes of track etc. Then, at the end of it all you realise part of your path is wrong way down near the start of the route. Is it possible to re-route a stretch of path WITHOUT everything that follows it having to be re-done?It's bad enough when you simply get the last mile into Philly wrong and have to do it again, but when it's way down stream.... sheesh.Thirl Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Oct-10-01, 08:46 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Broken Path fix" You can give it a try, good luck. What you need to do is break the path yourself. I'm not in the sim right now, but right click on a point, and then a menu will come up. There should be an option, something like, break point or broken point? Click there and it creates the same effect as if you had a broken path. Then you can go back and fix using the method above.I had one that had a broken point near the beginning and I never could get it to fix, but I don't remember the reason. I thought maybe it was because it was near the beginning. You may be able to load up the path itself and see if you can edit the path too. ????Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
