Sep-22-01, 10:38 AM (EST) "Observation of wierd signal behavior" I am posting this here because it might be of
interest more to activity creators then to activity users, esp to those trying to understand the idiot signaling logic ... once again why the hell not just use APB or something prototype??? anyway... I was playing the Marias pass activity "Noon mixed freight"
and while I was on the bison passing siding, I slowed to much and went into reverse. Then I proceeded on my merry way, passing green onto the main track, and then had a head on collision with an oncomming train!
I decided that this deserved some investigation, so I tried it again, but this time without reversing the train. NO problem, I met the opposing traffic at the next siding.
So I tried again, this time going in revere on the siding as before. When I went forward again and reached the head signal (at the end of the siding), I noticed a strange situation. My signal was green (clearing me to leave the siding and enter the main track) but the opossing signal (from the single track) was green too! I was still on the siding at this point. So I decided to wait it out, and about 15-20 minutes later an opposing train met me and passed at speed. Never did the signal from the siding change from green! This is cleary a bug in the signalling system. My light should have been red. Probably it is a design flaw. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-22-01, 03:17 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Observation of wierd signal behavior" I think the problem is more in the game and not the signals. I've had to somewhat re-script the signals for our Tehachapi Pass route, and the logic for the signals is actually quite accurate. What's wrong is that the game isn't handling the traffic properly in the activities, in terms of dispatching AI. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to hack that part of the game. Sep-22-01, 11:06 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Observation of wierd signal behavior" I can speak directly for this situation and certainly not for Kuju, but here's what I think happened. BTW, is this the same situation you posted about in one of the other conferences. What you may have done, by reversing, is to give a clear a path for the AI train. By reversing when you did, and the other train withing a 2 to 3 signal proximity, you put the dispatcher in a bad situation. See, I think the guy is lazy and doesn't like anything thrown at him/her within 2 to 3 signals of the player train. That last situation does sound odd though. One reason it sounds odd is because you say you was on the passing siding. With my actvities in my route, if you wind up on the passing siding something must've gone wrong. Because all the times I've seen the meets work, the player train is always directed to the thru lane. Did you get a yellow with a arrow pointing you to the siding?Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-23-01, 12:16 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Observation of wierd signal behavior" No, there was no yellow leading me to the siding.
Actually, it may not be a section of siding. Its on the
marias pass, and what they have is really more like sections
of two main tracks, and then sections of 1 main track. The wierd thing is staring at a green , while there is a train on the track and I could not possibly go! Wierd
But it does seem to work ok as long as you dont back up. As
I pointed out in another forum, this can be used to your advantage if the AI is stuck and no train can move.Cheers!

Sep-26-01, 07:38 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Observation of wierd signal behavior" I too have encounter this same problem. Please see:http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=2249&forum=DCForumID3&archive=Stopping and reversing does indeed give the AI train waiting at Summit the go-ahead. However, the signal handling is not correct. Once the AI train leaves Summit, there is no way the signal at mile marker 1145.1(48.38154-113.27180) should be green. At best the signal should be yellow. The AI train leaving Summit encounters a signal halfway towards the collision(at mile marker 1147.5). The AI train sees a yellow signal. This is wrong with the player train in the very next block. At worst case, the AI train should see a Red signal and hold up at mile marker 1147.5 thus preventing the collision.Try this, stop short of the signal at mile marker 1145.1. Go forward and stop again. Now just wait. In a few minutes the AI train will meet and pass you.Take note of your signal. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
