Sep-03-01, 04:59 PM (EST) "Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I was out of MSTS and the AE for the past two and 1/2 weeks due to motherboard failure, now I'm back and priority one is to finish Essex Turn Part 2 but-NO-o-o-o-o!--my consists are disappearing again! I have a pickup, two setouts and a pickup to do Action Events for, and sure enough, the service info and consists vanish as soon as I go to select cars to pickup. Okay, I go to regedit and delete the AE_Normal_View and finish my pickup and two setouts, although I had to go back to regedit, this time tried deleting all AE keys, and fishinsed the second setout. Now for the last pickup...can't get anything to work, the consist to be picked up disappears no matter how many times, no matter what I do in regedit, the last pickup is a no-go.Has anybody else had the disappearing consists syndrome re-appear after regedit and, if so, is there anyone who was unable to do anything to get it back, or am I the only one?If there's no solution soon, I'm just going to have to resort to printed work order files and let those users who have to have the evaluation feedback at the end of the ride just cool their heels with self-satisfaction rather than black and white on-screen approval. Sep-03-01, 11:13 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I had the problem and fixed it with the regedit fix and so far it's working OK. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed! <Bob> Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-04-01, 10:07 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I'm wondering... wondering mind you... if you're problem might be a little more compounded than earlier. Did you replace that motherboard? And if so, with a different one? I have this idea that MSTS is using the registry more than most programs and maybe because of that it's a little more sensitive to your hardware changes than most programs. Why not just do a full reinstall after removing MSTS off your hard drive and see if that clears up the problem? Takes awhile I know... Have had to do it a few times myself more than I cared to. Sep-04-01, 12:33 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I do have a new motherboard, and although I'm not computer-saavy enough to follow the logic here, I certainly know my way around reinstalls. Just haven't done one for a while, but my next will be my fifth (or maybe sixth, I'm not sure). If I can get AE Action Events to work, it would be worth it, but as I found on the last reinstall---specifically for this problem---that doesn't always work. However, if you see a potential issue with new hardware, guess it's worth a try! Thanks. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-04-01, 05:34 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" Well... the reason I said what I did was two fold. First, Windows seems real bad 'at times' remembering whatever it does with the previous motherboard. I had to do a complete reinstall when I upgraded from my 900mhz to a 1.2ghz. And let me tell you, msts ran soOOOO much better on that 900. Runs like crap on this 1.2. But I haven't completely reinstalled everything yet, maybe that's why. Anyway, the other night I did a complete reinstall and msts ran better. Maybe wishful thinking??? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-04-01, 09:37 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I have not changed motherboards or made any hardware or software changes at all. It Caused my consists to disappear on its own. After making the AE_NORMAL_VIEW deletion it reinstalled another AE_NORMAL_VIEW which has worked since I made the deletion. Something in TrainSim caused the problem. I do hope that it is solved. If not I'll just delete it and try again. Best regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-07-01, 09:41 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" When moving MSTS off your hard drive ... do you save your work on a zip file or a separate system. I don't want to loose all the work I've done so far on my new Route. How do you backup all the files, locos and freight cars you want to save???

Sep-07-01, 08:40 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Consists Disappearing AGAIN!!!" I would backup the entire route somewhere as well as the trainset folder. Every now and then, say once a year backup all data and reformat. Reinstall windows and all your software then add the data files back. It does make a difference and seems to solve alot of those weird problems that slowly creep into windows. My problem was a little different. When I go to add cars to a pickup action event the car info or nukmbers disappear but the cars are still there. I just have to remember which one I wanted to select. On my system its the location event circles that have disappeared. I thought I was going even crazier at first but they were there at one time. Now I can add them and they work but ya can't see them.
