Aug-26-01, 08:14 PM (EST) "How do I make activity finish" I am making an activity in Kalispell. I pick up some cars and then drop them off at a spur, then go to Kalispell siding/station to end activity, but it does not end.I have 3 action events. All set to level 1.
Action0 picks up cars then activates Action1
Action1 drop off cars then activate Action2
Action2 Stop at final station - Completed activity sucessfully. For some reason action2 is not kicking in. This is a frieght operation so I do not see the good of stopping at final, plus it does not work.Another quirk is in the F11 status, it says done for the drop off at the very beginning of activity, and it won't say done for the pickup until I do the drop off. What am I doing wrong?Bob Artim

Aug-27-01, 01:11 AM (EST) 1. "RE: How do I make activity finish" Hi Bob,If I understood your description of each "action", your problem may be in using the "Activate ..." (the next event) as an Outcome. Though I haven't test this yet, it seems (to me) that completing "Action0" would immediately trigger "Action1", which in turn, would immediately trigger "Action2". So, basically, all your "dominos" are falling at once. Also, be aware that there is a "bug" in the F11 STATUS column which incorrectly registers the "DONE" message. If you want to use "Stop at Final Station"; does the station name show up in the "Stops:" window (bottom of Service Editor)? And, if so, did you "checkmark" the Station and "checkmark" the Timetable? An alternate way to finish would be to use your two Action Events (set to 1) and a Location Event (set to -1). For example:Action0 (Pickup Cars) with an Outcome "Increase an Event's Activation Level by one" referencing the Location Event.Action1 (Drop Cars) With an Outcome "Increase an Event's Activation Level by one", again, referencing the Location Event.Location Event (place this where you want the Player's engines to be parked -- be sure to tell them where in the Briefing) with an Outcome0 "Display a Message" (write some "You finished ..." info; and an Outcome1 "Complete Activity Successfully".As you'll note, by setting the Location event to -1, it will not be active (activation level must be 1) until both Action0 and Action1 have been completed.Naturally, this is just one of several different ways to end an activity. You could have the last Action include the Outcome "Complete Activity Successfully" setting.NOTE: Because this example is only using two Action Events, you may also notice that the F11 STATUS "DONE" messages are working. I've noticed that it seems to stop working if you have more than 3 Action Events.Another good thing to use in the Action Events Properties are the "Triggered Text:" and "Untriggered Text:" fields. Here you can place a very short text message, for example "Successfully Drop the cars at ..." (Triggered); or Failed to drop the cars at ...." (Untriggered). These text messages will then appear in the "View Details" window after you exit the activity (letting you or the player know what was completed and what was not...).Hope this helps you along... Aug-27-01, 09:51 PM (EST) 2. "RE: How do I make activity finish" Hi again, Bob,Quick update to my previous response to your question.I've since tested the "Activate..." option and it will NOT cause a "domino" effect (as I assumed). It appears that it will just set the selected event's Activation Level to "1" (not "trigger" it, as I though -- as they say, never assume ...).So, if you've already set your Action Events to 1, there's no need to use the "Activate..." in an outcome. This technique would be useful if you have (for example) a Location Event set to "0". Then, have some other event (Action, Location, or Timer) make it active using "Activate ...".Hope this helps (I learned something new, anyway) ... Aug-28-01, 00:34 AM (EST) 3. "RE: How do I make activity finish" Thanks for your help. I read a little somewhere else too. I am now using 2 actions that set a locations value. The location event starts at -1.
Action0 (starts at 1) pick up cars, increment location0 +1, increment action1 +1 to make it active.
Action1 (starts at 0) drop off cars, increment location0 +1 so it is now active ( -1 + 1 + 1 = 1 )
Location0 drive to and park engine, activity complete. I set it at a 40 radius which is about twice the length of the sw1200 I am using. Also the events do not trigger until you pick up the cars, all though the report does not say so, (the bug). The drop off cars triggers when you get to the siding not when you actually uncouple Setting the location0 action to -1 at the beginning allows me to drive through and stop at the siding without ending the activity, until the cars are picked up and dropped off.I learned alot too. Thanks again.Bob ArtimQuestion Authority - Think for Yourself
