Aug-21-01, 12:26 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Bob, I'll keep you in mind for my next activity. My current one isn't going very well because of the inaccuracies in the NEC track. I need more passing places.Derek Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-21-01, 06:20 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Bob, as you may have noted, I have been off MSTS for six days now and don't know when I may get to Essex Turn 2. Still hassling over warranty and even then it was mail order so that's a problem. Still trying to see if I can fix it myself, or with a little help. Anyway, to all you activity designers here, a big recommendation for Bob as a tester before you upload your stuff. He's great at good constructive input before you put your activity in final form. Just remember, if you plan to share, not everyone is going to see the same things you do or understand your concept. A second (or third or fourth) pair of eyes can't hurt and will usually help. Aug-23-01, 09:15 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" To all Activity Devleopers out there ...I'll definately second "flarrfan's" recommendation for having Bob beta test your activities. He's certainly being a great help with some modifications to my WFL 2081 Episode-(x) Series. Thanks Bob ... Just remember what I said. Be careful what you ask for (you're liable to end up with a mailbox full of activities, and not enough coffee to keep you awake at night ...) I'll be sending you Episode-3, soon.Dave Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-23-01, 09:49 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Bob, when you ran my activity (Glacier Park Excursion) did you have the next station window displayed? (Function key F10) If not, please try my activity again with the Next Station Window displayed and when you stop at the station it should display a message in the bottom of the Next Station Window saying "Press Enter to load passengers" Also make sure you have the Track Monitor Window display (Function Key F4) to keep track of the Slow order speed zones. Let me know how it goes. Thanks,

Aug-23-01, 10:51 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Rich,
How do you get the message "Press enter to load" to appear in the window. I am re-desiging a passenger activity and all seems well in the editor, all stations are listed, schedule is set, starting times are accurate. The stations all show the number of passengers, but they just won't load in the sim.Alex

Aug-23-01, 11:21 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" You have to make sure the Next Station Window is Displayed in the sim, (Press the F10 Function key to display the Next Station Window if it is not already displayed) When you stop your train at the platform the message will display at the bottom of the Next Station Window "Press Enter to load passengers" After pressing enter, a counter will appear to the left of the message. When the counter reaches zero, all of the passengers have boarded and you may proceed to the next station. What I have found is if you try to get the center car of your train (ie 9 cars in your train, the center car would be car #5) stopped somewhere near the center of the platform you'll have the quickest loading/unloading times. Hope this helps answer your question Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-25-01, 02:59 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Richard,
Strange as it may seem, The consist was.s too long for Shelby.
I "cut" two cars and all was fine. However, using the new Marias Pass, I received a "lock up" on the Empire 7 between Cutbank and Browning. First time it has happened with MSTS. I also, tried to install the new signals too US 1 , but when I went to run the train, there was no NEC route. Tried restalling all the replaced files, but no luck. I ended up doing several complete installations after several attempts in solving the problem.
My conclusion with the problems with the two modified routes of the original MSTS routes, that no modification to the actual route can be done. Only Activities can be modified. The non-original routes you can do anything you want without any problems.Alex Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-24-01, 09:52 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Hello Richard,Yes, I had the Next Station window open, the coupler window and the track monitor. I always have these open on any passenger run. And I close the F10 on freight runs.I might try to start this one over again and see if there is a timing issue.bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-24-01, 09:55 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Richard, just as an additional note: I am stuck at the light in Glacier Park. I already picked up the passengers and let one AI train go past. But, after another 15 minutes or so, I gave up. Is there a problem at that light?I did move the train up and back and hit the tab key to see if I could change the light but no go.bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-24-01, 09:10 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Bob, if you move up to the point were the lead unit is sitting on the bridge it should trip the location event. I tried to balance it so that if you stopped the train with the middle car somewhere around the middle of the platform the event would trip after you loaded the passenger, acutally you are unloading them. Glacier Park is the end of the line for the activity. How far off schedule were you? You'll always arrive at Shelby at least 1 minute late, but I've been able to make the time up without exceeding the speed limit. Let me know what you find, as I only know of one other guy who can beta test activities for me. Thanks for the input

Aug-25-01, 03:43 PM (EST) 13. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" Bob, found something else really strange with my activity. When you pull into the station at Shelby, after you stop and press enter to load passengers, make a full application with the independent brake, then release the automatic brake. What I've found happends when you do this, is the train on the secondary will throw the switch and move thru the interlock before you're train is completely loaded. Very Strange as if you just leave the automatic brake on and the independent released the train on the secondary will not move throught the interlock until you are west of Shelby Are you finding the same thing?Rich S. Aug-24-01, 11:29 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Any New Activities Coming Up?" I'm working on one based off of something UP did in the last century some time. (I think it was in the late 80's...but I'm not sure.)For all you steam fans; you'll love this one. The idea is this:Your railroad (Pick one that runs the NEC) has experienced troubles due to this gas price hike. THe resulting higher prices of diesel has caused them to look to other methods of transit. Now, you'd expect them to run elecs...but those things cost money they don't have. So, being ever ready to save money; they opt to bring an old mothballed locomotive out, and test it on their intermodal runs. (the activity requires the Empire State Express, and the Kttx intermodal cars) Your task is simple; given clearance over all traffic short only to the express acelas, you are to go from Baltimore to Philadelphia...in as short a time as possible.I'm working on adding AI trains as this is posted...
