Aug-15-01, 07:38 AM (EST) "Lockups on custom activities" Does anyone find that custom activities made with the activity editor are more prone to locking up, especially on external views?
I'm trying to create an activity on the Settle carlisle line, and have got to the stage where I daren't use any other view other than in-cab, frustrating especially as it takes so long to test, find -it-doesn't-work, re-edit, retest with this dodgy editor. (It took 5 hrs to do a simple run past, reverse onto stock and set off - although there was no AI traffic, you have to be careful where you set reversing points. No guidance in help, of course)Playback always works fine, but it's a different matter when you start the sim.My system
AMD 750 MHz processor
Voodoo 3 2000 16 MBb video
288 Mb RAM
VIA onboard sound chip
ECS K7VZA motherboard
Windows 98 SEAlthough this game looks promising, I'm disappointed with this half baked release. For the price of £50, I'd expect everything to work and be well documented. Instead, it looks as though we're doing the faultfinding work and paying for the privilege, which I think is disgraceful. Imagine trying to play this on a 233 MHz machine, like it says on the bottom of the box!

Aug-16-01, 00:50 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Lockups on custom activities" I've had a few (NOT all!) "aftermarket" activities where the frame rates have suffered considerably, but as far as lockup problems most have been no worse than the default ones.Don Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-16-01, 02:55 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Lockups on custom activities" When I first used MSTS I was getting lock-ups all the time and getting pretty frustrated. The most useful remedy that I found was to go to the "Options" window and then the "Display" menu, and move the "Overall display quality" slider further to the left. In one of their tech docs, Microsoft says that if your video card has only 16MB of memory (as mine does, and I see yours does) then you should set this slider no more than 2 notches across from the left. This single change removed virtually all crashes from my game, and will keep me going until I upgrade to a 64MB video card in the near future. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
