Aug-13-01, 04:28 AM (EST) "Red Signals" I'm just starting out in the activity editor world and so far I'm doing OK I guess. I think I got the hang of setting up my activities, but one thing I haven't been able to overcome is those dang red signals. I get everything set up, start my activity and everything goes according to plan until I come to a signal that for some reason is RED. I can't figure out how to change the signal to green while in the editor program. Can somebody please tell me what I'm overlooking or doing wrong? There seems to be no reason for it like an oncoming train or something like that, so I'm sure I'm making a rookie mistake somewhere along the line. Your help is greatly appreciated! Aug-13-01, 06:54 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Red Signals" You might have a path conflict. More likely the AU (for artificially unintelligent) dispatcher and the buggy signal system is holding you for an AI train that is two or three sidings away. At least, that's been my experience in activity design. Adjust your AI paths and start times (and even that doesn't always work, as the Essex Turn thread below demonstrates ). Aug-13-01, 11:37 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Red Signals" Apart from last answer, there may also be a loose consist that you mistakedly placed (partly) on your own path (or in the path of a train ahead of you). So always check that extra consists and paths don't occupy the same tracks...I've experienced that the best way to make an activity is to work in fases, and test them every time. First the player path and events, then opposing traffic, then traffic in the same direction, and finally loose consist. In that way if something doens't work out you know where to look for trouble. Aug-14-01, 10:02 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Red Signals" I am also having this problem when creating a new activity on the Northeast Corridor. I created the path going from Washington 12 to BWI. With stops at all stations. I did not put any other traffic on route. I get the red signal no matter what path I choose, or time of day. I did have one path where I was able to go farther than usual, but I would still end up with a red signal. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-14-01, 05:34 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Red Signals" Hi Zaphod,
Your guess is as good as mine. I was finally able to make an activity that didn't give me any red lights. The only thing I did different was take out my reverse points even though I did reverse when plying the game. I think that created another problem because after proceeding through a flashing yellow signal I went head on into the noon mixed freight train (was a cool looking crash!). I should have had a red light and waited for the noon train, but I had no idea it was coming because this time I didn't get a red signal. They say the MSTS Editor is not for the average skilled computor user, and believe me I'm just average (well maybe below average)when it comes to computers, so I'll learn as I go. Good luck!
