Aug-12-01, 07:46 PM (EST) "Essex Turn Oddity" Flarrfan,
First, let me say that I have enjoyed all your activities.I started the Essex turn activity and was moving merrily along.
Dropped off the West Coram cars and proceeded through the green light onto the single track. As I did so, I saw a red light ahead with 20 next to it. I've not seen that before. As I slowly approached the red light, I saw another train coming at me.
After the crash, I loaded the last saved game, which was after dropping off the cars and decided to wait at the green light and see what happened next.
Here is the screenshot
As you can see I STILL had a green light with a train in the way.
It happen about 30 minutes into the activity. Thanks for all your work
Regards

Aug-12-01, 09:51 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Essex Turn Oddity" Tony,Strange! I ran this same route and recall the train passing me, but I hadn't gotten near the signal yet. I think, with FLRRFAN's activities you had better watch your speed limits. I ran the route pretty much at 5-10mph below the limit he set on it. Passed several large consists going the other way with no problems at all.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 10:50 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Essex Turn Oddity" Actually one of my testers reported a yellow light at this location, he proceeded thru it and had a head-on with the rack train as well. After that report I changed the start time of the AI train by ten minutes. I see that apparently is not enough for some of the faster switchers. Are you sure you came out of the yard at 15 mph, or did you put it right up to 60? I ran this activity a total of 3 times. The first time I was too slow getting to W. Coram and the AI train was waiting on the main for me. I moved the time back and when I ran it again, this time closer to the speed limit, the rack train passed me while I was switching on the W. Coram industry track. The third time, I had heard about my tester's head-on and finished switching without seeing the train but the track monitor showed a green at the east end of the siding so I proceeded cautiously and had a running meet about 3/4 mile from the siding end. Obviously there is a signal problem here. I wonder if it relates to the engines leaving the siding to switch the industry spur. Maybe that tricks the program into thinking there is no train coming. Even so, that signal should be red if the program is working correctly. Can anybody think of anything to do about this, other than delete the rack train, change the staring point, or move the start time back up to the original? Those are the only 3 things that come to mind. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 10:57 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Essex Turn Oddity" By the way, after my tester's head-on and changing the rack train start time, I decided to go ahead and upload to my site because I couldn't reproduce the problem and two other testers reported good results. I did edit my planned web page copy to include this: "There may be some signal issues with these trains if you don't make your setouts and pickups efficiently."Now know I should have also said "or if you make your first pickup TOO efficiently, as well."I will take another look at revising this tomorrow night. Please send me the bill for cleaning up the wreck. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-12-01, 11:15 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Essex Turn Oddity" LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-01 AT 11:16 PM (EST)I'm sure that I stayed around 15mph, maybe as high as 18mph in the yard and I stayed around 5 mph under the speed limit. But I agree with you that it's a signal problem, not an activity issue. If there is a westbound train on a single track, eastbound traffic should NOT be seeing a green light.
As far as a cleaning up bill, I'll send that to Microsoft/Kuju. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 06:29 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Essex Turn Oddity" For anyone who has had problems running the Essex Turn, I have just uploaded a revised .apk to my site at http://overseasrailroad.railfan.net/flarrfan/essxtrn1.htm
It will, of course, overwrite a bunch of your files from the original activity, but shouldn't affect anything else on your system. The revised activity changes a couple of AI train start times and adds a pop-up message in the form of a radio call from the Ft. Worth dispatcher relating to a faulty signal. I have also heard from someone who encountered another signal problem at Nyack (although no collision, luckily), and hopefully my adjustments have fixed that as well.Anyone running the original or revised activity and having a problem, please let me know with a forum post or an e-mail. Hope this works for everyone.
