Aug-11-01, 02:33 PM (EST) "cars won't move " I have built a yard that allows me to back an engine around to pick up cars from behind , however when I try this they cars won't move it's like they're stuck to the track if I back the engine to couple them it works fine , I've toggled the consist that I'm trying to hook to but still no dice , what gives? Aug-11-01, 03:59 PM (EST) 3. "RE: cars won't move " I believe this is some sort of problem with the program, and not caused by anything in your track layout. Many people have mentioned a similar problem when coupling cars to the front of a locomotive - it's as if the loco loses about two-thirds of its power. I try to only use front coupling to push or pull a few cars for short distances, and then as soon as possible find a run-round siding to get the cars behind you again. Maybe this will be fixed in version 1.1? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-11-01, 04:37 PM (EST) 4. "RE: cars won't move " It's definitly a bug in MSTS. It's possible to move a few cars when coupled in front but not a large train. It appears to be not so much a loss of power but it seems that the brakes on the cars stay active.

Aug-13-01, 05:33 PM (EST) 5. "RE: cars won't move " I have found the solution to your problem.Make sure for the loco, tender, and wagons you are using that the following variables are defined correctly. Wagons/Coaches
MaxBrakeForce
Set this as follows
MaxBrakeForce (Newtons) =400 x mass (in tons) All wagons/coaches/loco's.
NumWheels ( 1 )
Adheasion ( 0.2 0.4 2 0 )You will need to modify the .wag and .eng files. Even though with this fix, when running in reverse you still need to apply 40% throtle to start moving the car. If you go with something smaller than 400, then you will have problems stopping the consists downhill.Saludos,

Aug-16-01, 10:17 AM (EST) 6. "RE: cars won't move " For once MS is actually half accurate (well for the steamers anyway!!!). In forward gear of a steamer you have a usable cutoff of 0 - 75%, In reverse on express locomotives you (should) only have 0 - 25% cutoff, ie a lot more force is required to move anything. Now on diesels some locos are full power either way and some arent. I couldn't comment as my interests and experience has always been with steamers. Thats why you never saw railways shunt with a steamer like Scotsman. They always used smaller tank engines like 57xx etc as they have equivalent power in full forward or reverse.Dave Etheridge Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
