Jul-31-01, 01:51 PM (EST) "UPACKAGING - THE SIMPLE METHOD" Hello all,
Could you please try this method and tell me if it works on your system. I've tried the longwinded version as most of you have and it works once, and once only. Thereafter, try this :
Place the activity file in the same folder as tsunpack.exe (uitils)
Go to Start, Run..
Select the activity file, you must specify 'all files' rather than programmes or Start won't see it.
Now Run it from Windows Run command, it should load.
BEWARE !! In trying this, do NOT allow the install to overwrite anything !!! this caused problems for me as it debilitated exisiting consists and paths for which the only cure I found was a complete un-install and re-install.
What do you think ? Does it work ?
regards,
SPATE

Jul-31-01, 05:15 PM (EST) 1. "Unpacking and Overwriting" Sorry, Steven, I find nothing simple about this method. The Super Simple method I use is to double-click the .apk icon. No dragging, no run/browse. And let's continue our overwrite discussion here, because I have yet to see really definite answers to your concerns, even if I'm pretty much convinced that people don't need to be intimidated by overwrites, you can always just say no. My testers tell me my activities still work without overwriting, just not quite the way I intended. I don't know about others, but I'm an adventurous sort, I've downloaded plenty of activities, done plenty of overwrites, and except for one case--a non-default engine without proper notice from the creator--I have had no problems. Is this unusual? On the other hand, I rarely download activities that advertise rolling stock I don't have, unless it's rolling stock that I planned to download anyway. What about it? To overwrite or not to overwrite? Whether 'tis nobler in the sim to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous default activities, or to venture forth without fear to tackle the activities awaiting? What say ye, knaves? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-01-01, 02:23 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Unpacking and Overwriting" Hello,
Yea, I'm a bit unsure myself, sometimes it works othertimes it don't, but that could be due to the fact that the packaged file isn't right. I'll try your method on a few and see what happens.
Meanwhile, I don't know about overwrites, but if they include existing consists or paths, like you, I steer well clear of them.
About paths, I've been playing with a reverse path activity, but whatever I do, I ineveitably run into a red light at either end where the paths cross. The outbound path light is non-fatal, though is not recognised by MSTS, the inbound red light is always fatal, don't know what to do really. Any Ideas ??
regards,

Aug-01-01, 04:17 PM (EST) 3. "RE: UPACKAGING - THE SIMPLE METHOD" There is another very simple way to make it ALLWAYS work!
Editing the registry. As not everyone find that simple I uploaded an extraction of the two reg entries that need modification. Those uplaoded entries can only be used for a default installation of Trainsim on hard disk C.I hope that will help a few people.Willem van den Dries
