Jul-30-01, 10:11 PM (EST) "Signals on new routes" Just wanted to pass on something I noticed this afternoon. I've constructed a route about 20 miles long, with lots of passing sidings and lots of signals, and I was designing activites with several AI trains running in the opposite direction to my train to see if I could get all of the signals within the sidings to work correctly. When I ran the simulation of the activity inside the activity editor I was getting very poor results - my train and the AI train were refusing to use the sidings and would just sit looking at one another across a pair of red signals, or my train would sit at a red signal with absolutely nothing but clear track in front of it.
I noticed that the problem signals always seemed to be one of the two-headed interlocking types, where I'd linked the two heads to different routes emerging from a switch. The single-head signals always seemed to work OK. So I went back into the route editor and, at each signal that was giving these strange types of behavior, I simply deleted the signal and then replaced it and set all the links again, but this time I saved after I added each signal. Now they all work fine, the AI trains happily move across into sidings, and I can get some really effective activities rolling.
This could be related to the "memory leak" problem that has been noted by several people. When I first placed the signals I was in the middle of a long session of route editing and probably wasn't saving more than once an hour. So I think this enforces the golden rule of the route editor: SAVE, SAVE, SAVE - you can't save too many times! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
