If you have downloaded my OREGON CORP Lumber activities, you will get a missing sound file error. Simply copy all the .sms files from MLT_Freight/Sound folder and put them in the main Train Simulator/Sound folder and that will resolve the problem.Bob Edwards
Sorry, but I've spent a lot of time building the activities, getting them tested, and sending them out. If it's too much trouble for you to copy and paste a few files from one folder to another then you should make up your own activities.
It really is appreciated that a lot of time has gone into creating activities, particularly testing them. However, to a extent, I agree with NYSW4002.For many people, it would have been preferable to have all the four files packeged into ONE self installing package (using Activity Packager, or self extracting zip/rar file, or even an installer such as ClickTeam Install Creator). It is fairly easy to create an installation package. And it takes no more than a minute to create it.Actually, for these activities, there were quite a few more than a "few" files to copy to various sub-directories. There were four seperate zip files to wade through, and it had to be determined which files were to be extracted and to which sub-directory. Although not a difficult task for many people, for some people this task may be difficult.
I have to agree with both of you on this one. Peter is right in that many folks find wading thorough directories and sub-directories to be very intimidating and frightening. Bob is also right that if you don't want to cut and paste just don't do it. Personally I stay away from most activities that are not "packaged", as it has been my experience that unpackaged activities cause the greatest amount of problems with errors or missing files. Does that mean that there have not been "packaged" activities with problems? Absolutely not; just that there is a greater probability of error with unpackaged activities.Ken
Oakpalms would you buy a car that had ten steps to cranking it? No I don't think you would and if the dealership told you to build you own car that would be more mud in the face.Looking at the number of threads that you've posted here and at 3Dtrains it seems you haven't been here that long.I could be wrong. There are alot of good folk here that would have helped you package the activity so that there wouldn't be alot of cutting and pasting.I for one am not afraid of cutting and pasting but I do hate having to do extra work to get the activity to run.I don't think Dave's response was negative or critical at all.I think he was pointing out that one zip would with all the required files would have been better that four separate zips.Wouldn't you agree to this.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh East
I am sorry guys, but I have never used the activity packager and don't know where to get it. I have found more problems with activities that use the tsunpack and executable installers because they never reveal what files one is actually going to get. I feel that some people when they see what trainset files are included may decide not to install my activities. If that is the case, then that is fine. I sometimes decide to delete some activities when I find what files they contain especially if they contain rolling stock from routes that I am not particularly desirous to fill up my trainset folder, nor do I want to spend a lot of time switching them out. With the self extraction files one can't see what you are getting, and so you are then stuck with the feeling I wish I hadn't done that in case you get a lot of stock you don't want. At least having the files usable for copy and paste operation allows for immediate decision making before installing. It may take more time to install, but it sure saves a lot of time if you were to want to take it off after it got put on there. From now on, I will probably send up something really simple or not do anything at all for distribution.
Oakpalms try using Route Riter if you have it installed. It works really well at packaging activities.Works alot better than the Tsunpack. Also using Route Riter to package the activities will put all the files in the correct folders for you.People getting the activity can still view what's in the activity before installing it to a particular route. There are alot folks here that are willing and would be glad to help you if you asked for there help.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh East
