Whenever I try and edit any train in the Activity Editor, it just hangs for 15 seconds or so and then closes the Editor.
There are no error messages on start up.
Frustrating, as I have no idea where to search for the problem?

RE: Activiy Editor close when I try to edit train.

Do you mean the Consist Editor in AE?If so; I got the same problem. Probably it's just the number of trains installed. There are 2 ways to get around this:1) get all not needed trains out of the trains\trainset folder2) use ConBuilder (recommended)Regards,René-----------------------------

RE: Activiy Editor close when I try to edit train.

I can't get to the consist editor because I can't get to the "service" editor.Clicking "edit" or "new" on the player train in the activity editor main window gives me an error message and closes the editor.
The same happens when I try to edit computer controlled trains, the editor closes. I was just searching past posts and came across a thread mentioning a maximum of 900 consists, various problems can occur around the 600 mark, who knows this could be a factor? I have 656.I don't know how many trains are installed, (probably too many). 666 folders in the trainset.

I store Routes I'm not planning to use in Route Control. This cuts down the MSTS folder size considerably but doesn't pack consists or rolling stock with it. I guess maybe the trains folder put on too much weight while my back was turned. We'll find out.I use Conbuilder for troubleshooting but I prefer the AE for creating trains.
I haven't added trains in th last 2 weeks since I last used the Act' Editor but I did run the "check/fix rolling stock" in Route Riter. I'm not very familiar with the program yet so maybe I did something wrong? At least now I have a direction to search in starting with "Con the Re-Builder". I appreciate the feedback &

Thank's,

Marc

RE: Activiy Editor close when I try to edit train.

Is this on one route only or all of them? What route? If you cannot get into the service editor, you may have a bad path that is screwing things up. Move ALL the services, traffic and paths to a safe place. Move the Paths back a few at a time and see when the SE crashes. Your bad path is in that group. If you are using passing paths, there are places where they do not work. They may look like they are working right, but they are not. TP2 has one thast will look ok, but crash every time.Fred

RE: Activiy Editor close when I try to edit train.

Happens on every Route. I can't even make a simple consist.

Installed Conbuilder as suggested.
Fixed all conbuilder startup errors (4). One missing Wag shape file which I found a copy in the original downloaded zip, no prob's.
Engine files 15 problems, all in the line "name".
Conbuilder mentions missing parenthesis but they all seem the same as other eng files I've compared them too. There is one difference though, the editor closes straight away and doesn't wait 15 seconds like it used to when I hit the "new/edit" train in the AE.Ive only made a 10 minute learning activity followed by a 1 1/2 hr journey invloving 30 AI trains, both on the (AU) Melbourne - Ballarat Route.
Haven't used passing paths. Bought Richard Garbers AE guide only a few days ago and am yet to learn things like passing paths, events and more... I've been using waitng times for the AI trains.I'll keep trying on these eng file errors and see what happens once they are all fixed.Marc

Both ( and ) seem to be there.
Here's what Conbuilder says -
The error was found on this line: Name ( "224D Tait driving trailer" ). Here's what I have in my 224D.eng file -
Sound ( "..\\..\\common.sound\\Brill\\Brillcab.sms" )
Name ( "224D Tait driving trailer" )
Description (Marc

Ps: Probably is to many trains (or consists) as Rene pointed out but first these Conbuilder error reports need to be solved. Marc

I've gone through and fixed the various errors Conbuilder exposed me to, have not removed any trains and I'm now able to get into the "Service Editor" and beyond in AE. This is great!
I still have lots & lots of sound errors to work through but I'm happy. Thank You Rene, Fred and Conbuilder (Carlos & Joe).Back on the right track.Marc

That particular engine will give an error in Conbuilder, we are working on that as the name is legal in the Sim.

RE: Activiy Editor close when I try to edit train.

Tried many different combinations with the Tait ".eng" errors.
what seemed to work is the following -

Part of the original file;Sound ( "..\\..\\common.sound\\Brill\\Brillcab.sms" )
Name ( "224D Tait driving trailer" ) Description ( changes were made to the line name as follows;Sound ( "..\\..\\common.sound\\Brill\\Brillcab.sms" )
Name (
"224D Tait driving trailer" )
Description ( Dunno' if this is right but it did get rid of the errors (syntax) in Conbuilder. Marc
