Hello everyone,I have created a five-hour activity for Marias Pass 3.1. The Player runs Great Northern's train No. 28, the eastbound "Fast Mail" based on schedules in effect in the August 1957 Official Guide. You get to meet the westbound "Empire Builder" at Belton along with various GN freights of the day.Everything, including meets, works beautifully...until I try to save the activity. I get the "activity successfully saved" message. Later, however, when I try to restore the saved activity, I get the "MS Train Simulator has encountered a problem and needs to close" message.I have checked and re-checked with the latest version of Route Riter and it shows no errors. The latest ConBuilder showed "Critical" sound file errors which I then corrected. Re-checked and everything okay. I re-saved everything in the Activity Editor everytime I made a change.I tested it...same thing. Runs fine...until I save it.Many thanks for any suggestions.
If you make any changes to an activity or any of it parts (consists, etc.) you can not load any saves made prior to the alteration.Apparently when the sim saves an activity it saves in one file the entire setup. That would include all paths, consists, services etc. It also saves the "serial" number of each of these files it originally used to load the activity. When you try to load a saved game the sim checks the "serial" number of each of those files before it loads the save and if any have changed it doesn't load the save. You can trick it be noting all these "serial" numbers after you save it. Then you can make changes to the activity and then change the new serials back to the original numbers. The sim will then load the save. You won't get any of the changes you have made, but will get the activity before you made any changes.Regards,Eric
Thank you, Eric. I should have also mentioned that I didn't make any changes (consists, loose consists, paths, services, etc.) to the activity after saving.I am also using Train Store to store evereything except this one activity.I did have five loose consists in the activity which were duly checked by all the utilities and they showed no errors. I decided to take them out just to see what happens. These were three long trains...two in Whitefish and one at Columbia Falls. The other two were cuts of two cars each. Lo and behold...everything works! It saves the activity...reloads etc. I have no idea why. As mentioned...all five loose consists were checked and re-checked with no errors.I will continue to investigate. Thanks again.
I may well be that the sim has a limit on the number of units that can be saved or it may be that it runs out of memory. Do these loose consists have many different units or are they multiples of the same unit. I've had some problems with loading activities with a lot of traffic and have been able to get them to load by making some of the trains with less variety but the same number of units.Regards,Eric
The locomotives are multiples of three basic units (F7A, F7B, GP9). As I had stored everything in Train Store except for that activity, I didn't think it would be a problem. There are eight AI trains to meet in this five-hour activity. Each one does the whole route instead of starting just before a meet with the Player train, and then disappearing shortly after the meet. I haven't noticed the sim slowing down at all. Thanks for your suggestion. Glen
