I have a diesel locomotive (Fowlis/Lee RS-3) that performs flawlessly as a player engine, but when used for an AI train it will barely move. It starts, accelerates to maybe 2 mph, immediately slows, makes another small jump ahead, etc. etc.The CON file looks normal, with MaxVelocity numbers around 29 and 1.0, and I've tinkered with them a bit but with no apparent effect.I've also scanned the ENG file, and don't see anything obviously wrong there--but I don't really know what to look for. I have a vague recollection of seeing a post about something like this at some time or other, but can't find it now.Any suggestions? Thanks.JohnR
If in making a consist that has the troublesome engine you had used some cut-and-paste method as opposed to using the consist editor in the AE, maybe the declaration of type of carriage where the engine itself is declared hadn't been redefined from (e.g.) "wagon" to "engine"? Sorry, I don't know coz it's been ages if my recollection's right since I experienced this problem.Cheers, goonybird
*&%$#! forum crashes wipe out all the old archived threads, so I couldn't find it, then there's the "old fart" problem where I can't remember whether it was in a post or email. Anyway, I managed to find a scrap of what Plainsman said:"First, try this which needs fixing anyway, DerailRailHeight ( 5cm ) DerailRailForce ( 2.5*110.3t ) You may have to add the antislip line for an AI train on this one. AntiSlip ( 0 ) insert it right after the curve resistance (friction) line. The sim engineer is pretty lousy with the older equipment. Bob"That was for Johnf's Alco RS-2s, which I cloned to make undriveable AI only engines and added that AntiSlip ( 0 ) line after the friction line. Whole section looks like this:Adheasion ( 0.2 0.4 2 0 ) DerailRailHeight ( 5cm ) DerailRailForce ( 2.5*110.3t ) DerailBufferForce ( 800kN ) NumWheels ( 1 ) Friction ( 100N/m/s 1 -1mph 0 1 5.1N/rad/s 1 -1rad/s 0 1 ) AntiSlip ( 0 )And that makes the RS-2 run as an AI engine.
Jim, you hit the nail right on the head (again!). I just cut the whole section from your post (which to me is pretty much gibberish), pasted it into the ENG file in place of what was there, and the engine runs fine.Once again, thanks very much. And don't worry too much about the "old fart" problem, because the truth is...eh...darn, I forget what I was going to say...Take care.JohnR
