Oh yeah thats really helpful....I think he is aware of how to get into the editor but its probably confusing the hell out of him...Zach you should check out the forum at http://www.3dtrains.com very friendly and helpful people there that won't blast ya for asking a simple question. 1972 http://www.trainsimstuff.com"Hard to steer when the Devil's driving, Hell on wheels and the brakes won't hold" Bruce Dickinson
>You create an activity by going into the Editors & Tools and >open up the Activity Editor. Duh. This is a really helpful post. There are alot of folks here that would help out and as pointed out check the How To's at the bottom.Just never give up and take one step at a time. Just Rollin Down The Tracks Dale
There are activity tutorials that you could download from the file library which teach you the basics of creating an activity. This will give you an idea of the features of AE. Hope this helps.
Hey there--try this link:http://www.train-sim.com/howto/The "How To's" may or may not be helpful; I haven't tried them out yet (the Route Editor gives me headaches!!)
Zach, no slight meant to the others since most of it is good advice, but I think Frank probably has the best line of fire. The AE is one of those things you can read about all day, but it never seems to connect until you actually get in and try it.After reading some of the information above - plus you might look at the steam4me site - back up whatever route you are going to work with, then open one of the activities and start looking around. Then when you have specific questions, come back here or somewhere and you'll usually get at least one good answer and many times many different ways to do the same thing. Though it's a bumpy one, just give it a go and hang on for the ride RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com
For the record, I've played computer sims for the past 16 years and have helped design two games, both of which have very detailed scenario editors. With that background, I assumed I would have no trouble whatsoever in quickly mastering the activity editor of MSTS. Not so. MSTS's activity editor is definitely the most complicated I have seen. And although I think I have a basic grasp of it now, I had to read several free tutorials and one payware guide to get there. If we ever see a new train sim, I truly hope that it contains a far better and far easier activity editor than what we have now.
It's only complicated if you try to learn everything at once. Start simple:http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/ig_a.htmGo on from that.http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/hack_act.htmAs an addendum, probably the easiest way to get your feet wet is to hack an existing activity, and to avoid screwing up the original, just clone it by changing the display name, activity description, and display brief, then click on file, save as, and type a different name in that. With four steps you have a new activity based on the old one, then you can edit that to change whatever you want.
