Short question: How do you substitute a new player consist into an activity without affecting the activity’s timetable?Long story: I recently learned how to substitute a new consist for the default player consist in an activity, with a lot of help from Sniper’s “Hacking Activities II: Drive the Trains You Want to!” tutorial. Apparently I didn’t learn enough. I’ve been experimenting with FBL v.3 to start. In the Bucketeer and Afternoon Commuter activities, when I changed the player consist all the station arrival and departure times changed to the same time - the activity starting time. In “Edit Timetable” I hit “Recalculate This” which reset the timetable to the correct times. So far, so good.However, in the Moorcock Loop and Short Passenger activities, when I created a new player consist for each activity and hit “Recalculate This” the editor would not change the times back to the proper times. Instead, the window changed from white background to the same tannish (?) color as the other windows, as though I were doing something wrong, which I obviously am. Then, when I hit Cancel, the times changed, but they were completely wrong. Continued attempts to recalculate the times produced continued errors with varying time values. At one point I got a window stating “Desired time could not be reached” accompanied by some data. The only difference I can see between the first two activities which are OK and the second two which have the wrong times in the timetable is that the first two have separate player train service and AI train services listed in the Player Service drop down menu, in addition to the ActivityName listing. When I substitute the player consist in these activities, it creates a new Player0 service, along with a new ActivityName0 service. With the two problem activities, there are no listings for a player train service and AI train services. All that’s in the drop down menu is the ActivityName listing itself. When I change the player consist in that Activity a new ActivityName0 service is created without any Player0 service. When I run the activity, it has my new player consist, but wrong timetable times.Hope you’re not as confused as I am by this long-winded explanation. Any suggestions would be appreciated, except the one that says “get a new hobby.”Al

RE: Activity timetable errors with new player consist.

Where is your startpoint placed?---|-------------0--|-->--->----- = track
| is end of station
0 = startpoint
> = direction of the train.In the situation above, the startpoint is at the front of the station. The startpoint actually indicates the position of the LAST car of your train, so the bigest part is outside the station. AE is not possible ot calculate the timetable.---|-0--------------|--->--->--
This is much better. AE can calculate the timetable this way.Main rule: How more the startpoint is away from the end of the station, how better.good luck,Regards,René

RE: Activity timetable errors with new player consist.

Hello Rene:Thank you very much for your reply. I looked at the player train paths in both activities. In "Short Passenger" the startpoint is fine, just like your second "much better" example. In "Moorcock Loop" the startpoint is set a good bit before the starting station. The activity starts out with the train in forward motion and it takes about a minute for it to get to the first station listed in the timetable. So, the puzzle continues.If I ever get to point where I can design my own activites, I will keep your good advice in mind.Regards,Al

RE: Activity timetable errors with new player consist.

I thinked about it again... Could be a too long train.
There is a part of the train outside the station, and AE doesn't like it...But it could also be the loco you're using. I know there are some loco's which give the same problem (the NS 1601 and 1602, created by the BST got the same problem (NS = Nederlandse Spoorwegen -> Dutch railroads, BST = Benelux-Sim Team)).The .eng file should be changed in that case, but I don't know what should be changed... some of the .eng/.wag experts should know...Good luck with AE..Regards,René-----------------------------

Click to send message via ICQ

Al, the easiest solution to this would be to simply change the timetable manually. After you have written the original times down, simply go into your activity and inside the players box is another box that says edit timetable. Click on it to open it. Double click on the arrival time, then enter your DEPARTURE TIME. When you've done that and clicked ok, click the arrival time again and this time put in the ARRIVAL TIME. Just opposite of what you would think. Simply go down the line and you should have close to original.btw, there are many reasons why the timetable will not compute. For example, if there is a signal somewhere that you have to tab for permission, that stops the AE in its tracks. Changing consists or parts of the consist can affect length, power, weight, etc., which all affects the outcome of the activity.Hope this makes some sense.RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

RE: Activity timetable errors with new player consist.

Many thanks Rene and RobertR for your advice. I seem to have solved the problem. First, I cloned the two problem activities per Sniper's tutorial, to experiment safely. Then, I went into each activity's .act file and manually changed the Player_Traffic_Definition arrival and departure times listed there back to the original times. The problem activities are fine now. RobertR, I just now tried your suggestion re how to make changes in the Edit Timetable window and that also worked fine. Easier than working with "seconds after midnight" in the .act file like I did, for sure! Much appreciated.
Again, thanks to you both.Al
