I have been attempting to make activities for a route I am working on using AE, RouteRiter they say as far as I can see everything is okay. When I try and use the activity in Transim it is a whole different result of either a error message or a complete lockup. Is there a tool that will tell an ignorant person such as myself of the pitfalls of a activity before it is used in Trainsim??Thanks in advance,"Ignorance is Repairable" "STUPID is forever"
This won't help much, but then again .. Probably the best two diagnostic tools for AE, RE, Sim etc., are #1 copy the error messages word for word (or as close as you can get them) when/if MSTS decides to award you with one and if it doesn't, give as detailed as possible account of what/where/when/how much etc.then#2 do a search on here and if that fails, ask here, presenting as much information as possible.Usually someone around can help if there is enough information to work with.RobertR .. Hmm, my feedback here may very well be useless, but I had a peculiar problem in trying to create an activity that had me stumped. My problem was that I recently made copies of an engine to some EMU that I'd downloaded ages ago. Everytime I tried to play the (only) activity that draws upon the whole EMU, my sim would lob me a message that it couldn't find the particular copy of the engine from the EMU. You see, the problematic engine was drawn upon by the traffic pattern to the activity. By manually opening the engine and consist files, I double-checked all the syntax that I had to revise to make the engine copy in question work, e.g., type of wagon ("engine"), type of wagon declared in the consist file, the naming of it, etc., etc., and discovered that I had overlooked performing a couple of modifications in establishing the copy of the engine effectively. But the sim still kept crashing, yet all the necessary syntax and modifications were fine/fixed.So I deleted that corresponding ".asv" file, being the generated file from computing-and-saving. Then I opened up the problematic activity in the AE, replaced its dedicated traffic pattern with none, and computed-and-saved the activity. (I then manually opened the activity file {".act"} to verify that no traffic-pattern datum was written into the ".act" file.) Then in the AE I reassigned the dedicated traffic pattern back to the activity, computed-and-saved it, shut down the Editors and Tools, and found myself able to load the activity in my sim without the (mysterious) aggravating error message. I even rebooted my machine to retry loading/playing the activity from scratch, and I still didn't re-encounter the error message. It seems that MSTS ain't all that great when it comes to rewriting the traffic pattern that must be mirrored (in a slightly different fashion, that is) in the corresponding activity file.Had I placed loose consists of the EMU that draws upon the troublesome engine copy, then I would have also deleted each of them to fully glean the activity file of any of their data.Cheers, goonybird
Thanks all for your responses...Just as I was fearing there is nothing other than sharp eye sight and knowledge to discern errors in them..ThanksButchborn in 38
