Hi All Another question. I have been trying to set up an activity that requires the loco to start at the depot and then connect up to a passenger consist to begin a timetable run. I have to get the loco onto the consist by using reverse points to back the loco into the platform and connect up. When I come to set up the timetable the program tells me that the platform is not on a "valid player service path" when it is to my path plan. Is this something to do with reverse points? All other stations on the path show up but not the one I have to reverse into to pick up the carriages. Regards Stu
Q: Do you have any forward motion from the spot where you couple your train until you get to the marked platform (the blue markings)? The location of the reverse points versus the location of the platform markings seems to be able to give some funny behaviour. Experiment a little with the reverse point location and the location of the consist.
I don't know how to explain this, most often because I mix up positives with negatives (e.g., reversals with forwards). If your platform track where you must couple up is less than twice the length of your ultimate consist, then the scheduling calculator can't drum up your schedule until the whole reversal business incorporated into your activity is fully resolved. It's as though the scheduling calculator must be assured that, because it recognizes some necesary reversal, the train being figured out must have ample reversal space both in front and behind it where the reversal is to take place. It's as though the calculator gauges that distance for reversal maneuvrability to be no shorter than your consist as spawned.I get around this finickiness by tricking it into thinking that its consist when spawned is shorter than it really is by substituting the intended consist with a shorter one. But something tells me that that's what your spawned consist is in the first place: a shorter consist. Anyhow, after calculating timetable, the last thing I'd do before the final compute-and-save is revert the player consist to the one that you yourself would like to work.Blech. Somebody else may be able to explain it better.Cheers, goonybird
Thanks for the input everyone. I had already decided to abandon my plan, and after reading your post, Goonybird, I can understand why it is too dificult to implement. I have decided on a run which starts with the loco already connected. A little less creative but much easier to get up and running.I remember an activity on the East Metro route but in that situation the loco picked up the carriages in the yard and ran straight into the station. No reverse points or backing up required. Regards Stu
>I >can understand why it is too dificult to implement.I wouldn't say it's too difficult; just tedious, time-consuming --providing you've the space to maneuvre, I'm sure you'd eventually get it to work. Anyhow, it seems that your selection you've just shared with us does fine.Cheers, goonybird
