Jul-25-01, 01:43 PM (EST) "Just want to run a train..." I simply just want to run a train.
Objective: To run a train from Whitefish to Kalispell and drop off cars at every siding between the two points. Just when I figure out how to set the path and build a train, I am unable to get the switches to work (the loading dock and the glue spur) in Columbia Falls. Boy this game reeks of corperate america. Unable to use the KISS method, you have to have go the hard way to get anything done.One should be able to open the editor and choose what one wants. I simply don't understand the designers thought process for developing an "Editor" with so little options to work with.My biggest bitch is this switch BS. I should be able to over ride switches if I want to. If I make a mistake the so be it. But not to have any control is unbeliveable.Does anyone out there have plans on designing a "User friendly" editor in the future.Frustrated in Seattle......

Jul-25-01, 09:11 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Just want to run a train..." Dear Frustrated in Seattle,Select "Explore ..." from the route options. You can select any train, start location, direction, etc. from the available options; this includes starting out at Whitefish. Unfortunately, the "Explore" mode is the only mode which frees up all the switches.The only other options are:
1) to setup your custom activity with lots of "Reverse ..." points at the switches not under manual control. However, even with the "Reverse" point technique, you can only pass through the switching path one time;
2)or,use the Route Editor and try to replace the non-manual switches with manual switches (this technique is described in other threads in this forum, however, it doesn't sound like it's something for the weak-at-heart ... I haven't braved it yet, anyway).Naturally, you'll want to build your own "custom" consist, so you can have all the cars necessary to make the desired number of drops.Hope this helps you get started, anyway ...
