Jul-23-01, 10:14 PM (EST) "Interesting Activity, or how does the AI think ..." Someone has probably tried this, but for those who haven't, it gives an insight into some of the train handling problems we've had. I set up a side by side activity on NEC with me in the single Acella and the ICE for the AI starting at washington going the entire length to Philadelphia, both leaving at the same time. Found some interesting facts ..
the AI ran anywhere from 5 to 10 mph below the posted speed limit at all times
the AI actually slowed down before many of the not so tight bends (I wonder how he knew where they were )
the AI braked consistantly (fairly hard) but started in earlier than I anticipated. (It's a shame they don't use brake lights, it would have been easier to see )My activity ended spectatularly to say the least .. I saw the ICE slowing down quickly in the 110mph limit, but didn't pay any attention. The next thing I know I'm gliding off the track into the side of it in the middle of a deceptively tight curve, with cars going every direction, in many different altitudes. Made the heart pound needless to say.I also did this on the Settle&Carlisle route with the steam motive. It's an interesting way to learn. Robert Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Interesting
