Hi all, I'm hoping some one out there can help me with some issues with the Whitefish Widowmaker v12 for MP31. I had fun with the previous version for MP30 that I went and downloaded the latest version. Had no problems getting MP31 to work. In fact got it to work on the first try. Downloaded ww31v12.zip, the activity itself, and wwtrpack.zip, all the rolling stock for WW. Both files installed without any issues. The only things I did to any of the files was to check the 'break' and 'dampening' values for the couplers.
On the first run, I got to roughly mp1138, the downhill grade before Glacier Park, got an error message about a missing shape file for the GN_GP9. Check the directory, sure enough, no .s file. Double check the zip file, no .s file there either. No biggie, downloaded another GN gp9 file, the skyblue scheme, renamed a few files, loaded saved game and was able to continue although it still complains about some missing .sms files. Roll through Glacier Park, came to the first hill and stalled out. Load saved game, tried it again but a little faster and was able to make on the second attempt. Come to mp1141 where I get warnings about watching the load meter. I get about a third of the way up and 'Activity Failed'. Blew out traction motor #4. Load saved game, try it again but with more speed. Bzzzt, failed again. Load saved game, try it again as fast as I can get these poor rs2's to move. BTW, derail is on. Get a little farther up the hill, bzzzzt, failed again. Reload, try again fast as possible, but after the second warning reduced throttle. To shorten this part of the story, I tried various throttle settings even to the point of setting throttle to zero and putting the reverser in neutral. Bzzzt, activity failed for the same reason. Out of sheer frustration, restarted the activity, but this time pulled just past the first signal bridge, uncoupled the lead unit, went back to the yard and stole the two SD9's that are across from you when you first start. Guess what? No change. Activity still fails at the same place for the same reason.
So, am I missing something here? Did I forget to load something? I did a search of forums and was unable to uncover anything. Any ideas? Please!!!!!Thanks
Matt

RE: Help with Whitefish Widowmaker 3.1

Matt,You're trying to go too fast. If you look at the readme file closely, I believe it tells you to take it easy, and just keep the train moving. Even if you're only travelling 2 mph, you'll make it over the grade. Try it again, keep an eye on the load meter, and try to keep it in the yellow. Only go into the red for short periods of time.I could tell you more, but that would spoil the activity! If you're truly curious, take a look in the AE at the activity and you will see the "secrets" of these "Activity Failed" messages.MC

what would likely happen in the real world of physics. If you push an already overstressed set of traction motors to the wall to gain speed, you will likely burn one out. Instead, build up inertia where you can safely do it, and keep the current as low as possible under stress. The idea here is to challenge the operator to overcome horsepower and motor load limitations with the use of inertia, prudent throttle operation and common sense. It is better to get over the hill at 3 mph than to fry the motors in an attempt at maintaining some desired level of speed during the process. You gotta learn the grades and then compromise.
