OK, I have made a simple tutorial for a friend so he can get used to the SD40-2 loco. You start in Whitefish with just a single loco. You now couple into three cars. I have hit these cars going 1mph and damaged the freight. WHAT THE HECK? On top of this, after I am done slamming into them at an amazing speed of 1mph, I put the reverser in forward, and set the throttle to the 1 position. I now let the loco get up to 5mph and release the throttle so it just coasts. The train takes damage every few seconds somehow. Am I missing the snipers with Robar RC50's firing anti-tank weaponry at my train or something? If so, how do I load my rifle and fire back? This isn't just in this activity. If I make ANY activity (even using custom consists with the durability set to max) where I couple into a car, the car takes damage at 1mph, and it takes damage whether I sit still or move the train. What am I missing? I setup a simple path (no AI trains on the route) with the proper reverse-points to allow backing onto a siding, and still no go.And that brings me to another possible bug. There are HUNDREDS of switches and spurs I can drive a train onto in "Explore Route" mode, but even if I set a path to go onto one in an activity, the switch will NOT switch, even if I am far far away from it (like three loco lengths or more). A prime example is the switch in Columbia Falls. Say I cam from Kalispell and took the Y right, and got onto the right mainline track. I go through the yard to the end, and there is a spur on the right side. This switch will not operate, no matter what, in an activity. In explore route, it works fine. Ideas?

RE: Durability Or Bugs?

Just wanted to clarify something. The siding name in Columbia Falls that won't let you onto it is called "Old House". I thought I'd look it up to be specific before I got a bunch of responses asking me to be clearer !Oh and I also check the hand-brakes and all on the cars I couple to, and none are on, so unless my virtual assistant hooks up the air-hoses wrong, I dunno' what's doing damage to my train. Then again, there are people who have .50cal BMG rifles out there. I happen to be one !

RE: Durability Or Bugs?

Question 2 is the simplest to answer. Explore route has no AI traffic, no need to lock the player out of changing something that would screw up the AI path, so the automatic switches can be player controlled in explore route. The signals also work differently. If you change to an external view (key 2 or 3) and examine it, you can tell which is a manual switch (player controlled in an activity) and which is an automatic switch (player can control in explore, but not in an activity). All the manual switches have switch levers sticking up, all the automatic switches do not. If there's no switch lever sticking up, you can't control it manually in an activity, you would have to make a path in and out.To the best of my knowledge, ponV6.zip in the file library is the only route that combines all player controlled switches with AI traffic, because it was designed specifically for switching and way freight activities. As for the second question, as far as I know there's nothing in the .eng or .wag files for any rolling stock that governs durability, that's set in the activity editor consist editor. Possibly the consist you made with the single SD40-2 or the loose consist you placed with the cars, you somehow lowered the durability slider.

RE: Durability Or Bugs?

Yeah I figured it had to do with the manual switches, but that's no problem. I can end the activity elsewhere. As for the primary problem, MSTS just made a liar out of me! I added a bunch more cars to the yard to make it look more realistic, and then played it. Coupled both sets of cars (both default consists) with no trouble. Did the whole activity with no trouble. I guess when you "Compute And Save" it sometimes sets the durability to 0 or something. Now I have to go back and add an AI train or two, so if it starts screwing up again i'll just have to save a few times to make it work, I guess.BTW, I live in Raleigh, North Carolina. I have NS and CSX tracks here and out where I grew up about 2hrs away. I just now found out about MSTS2 by returning to these forums, and heard about an NS route. Is there an MSTS2 official site up yet where I can find out if I can finally operate trains in my current hometown (well, state capitol/home-city)? There is a HUGE railyard a few miles away (about 2) and I have gotten pictures of real NS Dash-9's and other locos. One of the engineers seems to know to look for me half the time now, haha!

RE: Durability Or Bugs?

Oh? I never heard of that. I read somewhere (help files maybe) that it speeds up load times by pre-calculating certain things and storing them in files. If I don't do the compute I doubt my machine will suffer (P4/3.56GHz, 1gb DDR 2700, GeForce FX 5900 AGP 8X), so I'll give it a try if it wants to get fussy again. Thanks for the tip!
