I recently saw a BNSF train that was a type "B." According to several sources, this means the train type is a "Bare Table Intermodal." Could someone please explain this term. I would like to plan an activity for Marias Pass 3.1.
Robert Del Grosso in his "BNSF Northwest " , Great Northern Pacific Publications, has a complete rundown of the BNSF Train Symbol Identification System.Ex: H CHCGAL1 01 (10 Character Train Symbol);1 Identifies train type 2 - 4 Destination Station 5 - 7 Section number for train operated 9 - 10 Calendar of month in which train originatedThus, the above ID is Manifest (High Prioirty) (H) - Chicago - Galesburg - First Section - First day of month. There are too many Train Types - one for each letter of the alphabet - to cite here. B = Baretable Intermodal, "Baretable" designates what we might call "empty", though it might have other references of which I know nothing.Origin / Destination three-character symbols run to the hundreds, here also it is impossible to quote them in a posting. If anyone has a particular train ID they want decoded, post it and I'll be happy to reply. Del Grossos's BNSF motive power annuals are also good to have, the last one - not the one about to be published - also contained all non-powered rolling stock, with a minimum of one black and white photo for each type. Not to contradict Kevin (who is far more knowledgable than I), but to clarify:A Baretable Intermodal is one that contains empty Intermodal equipment only. There may be empty containers and trailers on the cars.Among the default cars, the US2DbleHgtFrghtRd is light (20.678 tons) compared to the US2DbleHgtFrghtBl (82.113 tons), and could be used to build a B-train.I like to build my consists by real-world rules, so I took a look at all my .wag files to determine car weights, and built a spread sheet that indicates whether or not a car is loaded. Took a couple evenings, but (to me) it feels more prototypical, particularly when picking up cars in an activity...the load can determine where to break the train to make the pickup.Kurt
