Gentleman,For those of you that also monitor the route design forum, you will know that I have been putting together the 2nd Subdivision of the Milwaukee Road in Montana, along with the parallel NP and BA&P.However, when creating a test route tonight, an ugly problem arose that has me baffled, and frankly I don't know what to look for to try to correct it.When I create a westbound activity on the MILW from a point east of Butte to end of track, currently 10 miles west of Butte, the sim. first takes the right side of the wye in the attached pix. This is not the usual procedure. Milwaukee trains backed into the stub terminal regardless of direction. This wye is referred to in literature as "Colorado Jct., probably because the BA&P was there first, and they connected with the UP a few miles west at Silver Bow.
No errors occur on this side of the wye.If, I "take the alternate route" at the head of the wye, and go to the left (normal procedure for westbound passenger trains), I get a broken path error, and the activity will not save. For the life of me, I cannot find anything that would indicate such a problem, either in AE or RE.Anyone have any ideas PLEASE!!J. H. Sullivan

Jerry, the only thing I can see that may cause that is the switch in the base of the wye. Other than that I don't know.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Broken Path Error - no visible problem??

It has me buffuloed, because an activity in the opposite direction works fine. The turnout at the head of the wye is not a wye turnout (and wasn't in the prototype), but if I have to, I will make it one.
I await other comments.Jerry

Jerry, does that "Head" to "wye" form any kind of large loop somewhere down the line by any chance? I've had something similar to this turn up in a couple of places until swapping a switch or two around to make a 'non-continuous' path. One other possibility I've seen with wyes .. if the error leg connected past the 'to west' switch rather than before it, since that seems to be a through path. You probably know all this already, but if you look at most of the 'default route's wyes', they are almost all not on the main line, but a siding where the diverging switch has to be taken to get to them.RobertR .. In an effort to not to assume the obvious: On the tracks marked "To West" and "Station"... there IS a piece of track between the points-to-points switch installations, right?Andre

RE: Broken Path Error - no visible problem??

Yes, there is a 10m piece between the point ends of switches.I may have to rearrange this, so that the wye connects to the siding, which begins after the west switch at the wye, which is the way the prototype is, but then again, sometimes we have to fudge things a bit to make them work. Maybe MSTS-2 will solve some of these deviant problems -- but my $$ is on it creating some new ones.J. H. Sullivan

RE: Broken Path Error - IT IS FIXED

Well, now I should figuratively bend over in the praying mantis position, and all of you should figuratively provide a "kick in the rear".Problem was: When I stopped laying track last night, I had just finished the passing track at Dawson, BUT HAD NOT PUT A PIECE BEYOND THE WEST TURNOUT. When I discovered that, I put the wye back together as original, and it works fine, problem was my stupidity - or maybe senility.J. H. Sullivan
