I just finished a complete reload of my system (it was due for a reload), and I've come across a problem I've never seen or heard about before. I have several consists where the default Dash 9 and the default SD40 (modified to be player driveable) and/or the default SD40-2 are in the same consist. All of these consists are causing MSTS to crash ("Send/Don't Send") when I try to start the game. I tried switching back to the default SD40 files, and that didn't help either. The only solution I've been able to come up with is make all the locomotives in the consist of one type, but I don't really want to do that because that is not the way the activities were originally set up. The activities that these consists belong to are MP3.1 and Crawford Hill. I've opened the .con files in Notepad to check and see if there was anything funny in them, but I didn't see anything funny. If anyone thinks they can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.Shawn
MSTS crashes when some of your activity or consist files are corrupted. Try to re-create consists from the scratch. Manual editing of .con or .eng files can introduce some hard-to-find errors. Use freeware program ConBuilder for building consists.
OK, I tried re-building the first of the eight or so consists. I have the offending consists moved out of the "Consists" folder. I opened ConBuilder and built the train exactly as it had been in the original offending consist. I saved it with the exact same name (into the consist folder - did not overwrite the old file because it was already moved out of that folder), and then I opened the game. Whoops! Still no go. If I change the locomotives to be the same (all Dash 9s in this case instead of 2 Dash 9s and an SD40-2), then the game loads fine. Anyone ever seen this before??Shawn
