How do I make an activity where I can throw my own swit – image 1

I am trying to do an activity with a UP SD75 and 2 SP GP20's in the Mojave yard where I switch some cars and then take them through Palmdale and then down Cajon Pass. How do I make it so I can throw my own switches ?-Shane- MASW Activity Designer

RE: How do I make an activity where I can throw my own

People who like to throw their own switches drive the PO&N. If anyone knows a route developer who designs like Sniper, post their name and I will download their route in a heartbeat!!

Rich Garber's Canton route, and the new Suddenly extension, are all manual switches and have no signals. You can go anywhere without problems! Check it out at http://edmfamily.com/msts/It's payware, but well worth it.

You can't in Cajon. Automatic switches will not let you.Kevin Arceneaux

LAST EDITED ON May-24-03 AT 05:08 PM (EDT)

Hoodoo Pass was designed (at best) for activity design and "free-style". All yards are clear of signals and all switches manual...except mainline high-speed crossovers. Just tootin' the horn a little... KipHow do I make an activity where I can throw my own swit – image 3

RE: How do I make an activity where I can throw my own

Thanks for the tip. I just downloaded Hoodoo and I'll install it imediately! So many other routes are looking good but I can't seem to go where I want. I can't always find places where I can get my trains between a switch and a reverse point to continue my activities. I hope this does it for me.

RE: How do I make an activity where I can throw my own

With the exception of maybe 2 switches, I built the CGW with manual switches. In future versions these will be manual as all switches will.

RE: How do I make an activity where I can throw my own

Hi Mike, I'm glad I begged the question again. I've asked before and wondered why no response I guess that there are no routes quite like PO&N. Sometimes I think I'm the only one who appreciates the capabilities. Then again, it takes time to progress to route builder and develope a good route. I left my comp downloading your route last night and I look forward to checking it out. The numbers didn't register at first and I thought I would be disapointed but when it started downloading in the 50+kb/sec range and said it would take a half hour I thought; Hey, I'll bet there is a lot of good stuff in this one. Now I hope it worked cause my comp was froze on black screen this morning.
Have a nice day

RE: How do I make an activity where I can throw my own

The latest version of SwitchList Generator, version 2.0, now in development, will convert all switches in any route to all manual at the press of a single button. Then for non-switching activities or activities with a lot of AI traffic you can press another button to restore to the previous switch configuratation.I'm doing this mainly because some of my favorite routes, such as NEC4, have many automatic (dispatcher-controlled) switches, even on industrial spurs, so I couldn't write SwitchList Generator templates for them. With 2.0 I'll be able to, and my first 2.0 template will be for NEC 4. Quite a few of the switches in Cajon, industrial spurs and yards, are manually operable. I wrote a template for it and players can get to all the spurs on their own. However again with SLG 2.0 you could press the "convert to manual" button and convert ALL the switches in Cajon to manual. For what you're trying to do, if you made a simple path from Mojave through the Palmdale Cutoff and on to Cajon Pass, and made sure the path came alongside any industrial spur switches, you should be able to do what you are trying to do. This will also guarantee you green signals (which manual switches alone, without a path, won't). All the switches in Mojave yard ARE manually operable, and I believe most of the industrial spurs are too.Happy Railroading!
