Is there something I'm missing when I try to package an activity to an .apk file? The packaging is fine but when I try to unpack them, some files are unpacked and then a message says that the .apk file is damaged. I've successfully unpacked downloaded .apk files (with the tsunpacker) with no problem. Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on?Thank you, any answers would be greatly appreciated.Steve
There is a line that is disaggreeing. I have started using Route Riter to pack my activities. It is painless AND you get a car list to prepare the DL list.Kevin Arceneaux DEFAULT IS FOR DUMMIES Lone Wolf Activities Forum on www.3DTrains.com
I agree, use RouteRiter. I've never been able to successfully use MSTS activity packer for my SD&A route. I've written a short help file to use RR's Activity Packer: -------------------------------------------------------------- Activity Packaging in Route Riter v4.0 3 May 2003The activity packager supplied with MSTS does not work all the time. None of the experts on train-sim or uktrainsim have been able to figure out why it works sometimes and not others.Mike Simpson has extended Route Riter v4.0 so that it can package all the needed files along with instructions for any activity you write. It automatically finds all the needed *.pat, *.srv, *.con, etc files and builds a ZIP file with paths enabling drag and drop installation. Here is how to do it: 1. Create an installation readme file. Name it "Activity Name".txt and put it into route's activity directory (same place as the "Acivity Name".act file. The text file's name MUST be exactly the same as the *.act file in order for RR to find it. For example, from my SD&A route: Hipass Meet.act Hipass Meet.txtIn this file you can put any text you want, author, instructions, credits, etc. RR will package it up into the activity ZIP file. See below for suggested user installation instructions.Note: we don't call the readme, readme.txt, so that if you create multiple activities, the readme instructions don't get overwritten.2. Start RR, confirm route and navigate to the route's ACTIVITY folder in the left window.3. Click on the activity's *.act file.4. Click on the "Activities/Stock" tab.5. Click on "Check Selected Activity".6. Fix any errors. Repeat the check as necessary until all errors are resolved.7. Click "Package Activity". RR will create a ZIP file for you. It will ask you for the name and directory to put it in. RR will suggest a name which is the same as the activity name.Note: One odd operation that I have observed on my Win98 system which Mike has not seen: RR creates a temporary directory during packaging named: "C:\Program Files\Route_Riter\SetupFiles\Train Simulator" This directory MUST NOT be present when you press "Package Activity". Mike says on his computer RR deleted this directory. On my system it does not. SO before you package each activity, manually delete this directory if necessary.8. Close the ZIP window by selecting File->Exit9. Close the Activity Check report by clicking on the "Exit" button.10. Exit RR11. Distribute the ZIP file to world. Here is a suggested user installation instructions. They should be put into the "Activity Name".txt file as I described in step 1 above. You should replace the names in quotes with the correct names for your route and activity.---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This activity was packaged using Route Riter written by Mike Simpson. In your ZIP program make sure "Use Folder Names" is selected. If you are using WinZip, drag the ZIP file into the train simulator folder: "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator".This will install all the activity files into the correct directories.Look at the Routes\"RouteName"\"Activity Name"_RollingStockNeeded.txt file. This file lists all the rolling stock needed for the activity and the name of the directory (in the Trains\Trainset directory) it should be installed into.Once you have all the rolling stock in place, you can run the activity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------This help file written by: Mark DiVecchio markd@san.rr.com San Diego & Arizona Railway http://www.silogic.com/SDA/SDA.htm
Gentlemen,I downloaded Route Riter 4.0 last night and it is FANTASTIC! Thank you for your input and quick response. I really appreciate it. I will soon be distributing my activities so people can experience them. Thanks again,Steve
One thing is get a couple of good beta testers. I have a couple who tell me what I need to know and explain the problems so I fix them.Kevin Arceneaux DEFAULT IS FOR DUMMIES Lone Wolf Activities Forum on www.3DTrains.com
In order to package an activity your route directory must be the same name as your trk name. An example is the East Metro route, I can't remember what the default name is but it is different from the track name that is number11, once you rename the route directory to the trk name then you sould no longer have a problem packaging activities, when unpackaging activities it does not seem to care what the route directory name is. I have seen this problem with East Metro, San Diego & Arizona V 2.0 - the directory should be named SD1 I believe and either the Florida Funnel or Florida High Speed route also has this problem, it should be named US3 I beleive (sorry I am doing this from memory).Hope this helps.Brian Element mow@vnerr.com
