If you are in the middle of an activity, and you save it under a different name, you may need to change consist names if you change any paths or train makeup, though, otherwise your previous activity may not work properly and you may lose any saves. Always remember, when modifying anything in an existing activity that you want to keep, choose "Use as Template" and "save as..." with a different name. Otherwise you'll see two activities with the same name.I also find it helpful to add '- backup' to the display name and do a save as ... with the word backup in it.
