Jul-15-01, 05:51 AM (EST) "How the $@%#&^!???? (Edit timetable)" LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-01 AT 05:58 AM (EST)When I want to edit the timetable, usually the times hardly change. When I set the expected performance a lot lower (from 75 to 30) nothing happens! And in the timetable window, under the performance header, it reads 88 and 94... Not 30! When I run the activity I can never make it in time. Is there any way to change the times manually?P.S. I found out that when I try to edit the timetable for the first time, I get a message that the desired time could not be reached. With some useless numbers. Times ARE changed in the timetable window, but to values that I can never keep up to. What's wrong here...? What did I do wrong? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-17-01, 02:34 PM (EST) 1. "RE: How the $@%#&^!???? (Edit timetable)" One workaround is to change the number of passengers at the platform/station. This number seems to change the wait time, giving you a margin at the station..... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-20-01, 03:21 PM (EST) 2. "RE: How the $@%#&^!???? (Edit timetable)" I have the same problems with timetables. Sybex manual is useless for this. What bugs me is I CAN change ARRIVAL times but not departure times. Calculating Timetables:
I uncheck all stations in timetable, click caculate, then check all stations and click caculate again. This seems to work OK but still no way to adjust the departure times. When I run the route for an activity I created, Northeast route, Washington to Philly, running the route carefully at 2 to 4 MPH under the speed limit I always arrive way early at most stops, in this case at Baltimore and Wilmington and about 45 seconds LATE at Philly. These are the arrival times computed (calculated) by the simulator.
Early arrival means sitting in the station for up to 10 minutes or so. I have no idea why the simulation calculates such unreasonable timetables and if I were allowed to manually adjust both arrival and departure times it would fix this.Another thing I've found is adding traffic and or static consists
to an activity has a big time effect on frame rates. My machine is a 905 MHz P3, 385 meg RAM, 60 gig 7200 RPM HD, Nvidia 64 meg video card and sim frame rate runs around 25-30 but when a consist or traffic is being rendered the frame rate sometimes drops to 8-10 FPS. This is not good at all.Route Editor:
There is a bug in the route editor that eats memory (RAM) especially editing terrain. If you are route editing and the 3D display goes black when you click to save, you are out of memory. Save your work then close the editor (gets a invalid page fault sometimes here)your changes will be saved OK. Reboot your machine and start where you left off, hopefully you remembered to note the Latitude and Longditude where you were editing otherwise retrace the route to where you were (sigh).
You can use the System Monitor provided in Windows to keep track of allocated memory as you use the editor. I use allocated memory and swapfile in use settings. When I see all available memory allocated and swapfile use starting to go up I save and reboot.
System Monitor is an executable located in the Windows directory at C:\windows\sysmon.exe. To create a shortcut the easiest way is to use the start button, FIND function. Click START, FIND, Files or Folders, and in the NAMED field type SYSMON.EXE. When sysmon is displayed in the results panel, right click on the icon and in the popup menu select "create shortcut". You will get a message "cant create here do you want on desktop?" click yes and you will have the shortcut. Configure it the first time you run it for allocated memory and swapfile in use.
As you use the editor let sysmon run minimized and check it every once in a while as you use the editor. When it shows you memory is all used up, save your work and reboot. Prevents crashes and loss of your work.Come on KUJU, I will PAY YOU $$$ for a really comprehensive technical manual on the editors and tools. The Sybex manual falls miserably short on editors...and I still don't know how to construct a tunnel that interacts correctly with terrain.Vince Cockeram

Jul-23-01, 09:25 PM (EST) 3. "RE: How the $@%#&^!???? (Edit timetable)" Don't blame the Sybex Manual. Since the Editior is a no supportive addon, there is no way anybody can know what it is about without doing extensive experimentation. Someday before Version 2 comes out, one of us will have mastered it. May the best person win!!scand
