Jul-13-01, 03:17 AM (EST) "Ready to uninstall" I now understand why so many users are very unhappy with MSTS. I am about one hour from uninstalling the whole mess.Do you have to be 16 years with a M.S. in computer science to run the activity editor? Clearly, it was not intended for those of us who never got past Basic Plus.It is not the hardware or software that represents the biggest problem with MSTS. It is the complete lack of intelligent, logical documentation. After trying for a week just to create a simple point A to point B activity, I'll just return to running my choo-choo back and forth. The Activity Editor mades me look/feel like a moron. "Not for Senior Citizens" should be on the package as a warning.ron

Jul-13-01, 07:36 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Ready to uninstall" I think I've got the Point A to Point B pretty much figured out. It's the pickups and setouts and reverse paths and switches that I find impossible to design. Fortunately, the A > B long hauls are the activities I like best. Jul-13-01, 10:22 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Ready to uninstall" I tried to create an activity last night for the first time..
Perhaps it was the late hour, but I couldn't quite finish it.
Maybe tonight when all the kids are asleep and I won't get
any interruptions, I can deal with it. Jim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-13-01, 12:36 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Ready to uninstall" Hey all
Scott Stevenson wrote a very good tutorial on creating activities that I DLed somewhere. You can search for it. He takes you step by step through the process of creating an activity....Hope this is an answer instead of uninstalling as I'm in my upper 60's Bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-13-01, 12:57 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Ready to uninstall" I couldn't find any tutorial file here or on http://communities.msn.com/TrainSimulatorFanSite by "Scott Stevenson." Here, I looked at all the activity and utilities files, and at TrainSimulatorFanSite I looked in the same areas. There is, however, a tutorial by Darren Mann here. It is named activtut.zip. Search for that file name and you will find it.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

just found myself getting confused at a couple of spots...like
when the route displayed in the window..I had a heck of a time

Jul-13-01, 03:13 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Ready to uninstall" Thanks for the support. Actually, I have an A to B activity. I set up about 60+ chemical tanks and started at Shelby, going west. The default endpoint was Whitefish, so all I set was the time of day.I have been trying to build an activity where I start at the Glacier Park wye and move west picking up helpers at two sidings and taking them over the hill to Essex for more helper duty. It is very frustrating.Ironically, I have been corresponding with a number of users helping them with basics like memory usage and display values. But the Activity Editor is a whole new world and at 59, there just aren't that many brain cells left to call upon *grin*.

Jul-14-01, 08:29 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Ready to uninstall" I haven't tried to set up an add helper situation, but according to the logic I've seen in the sim and editor, won't a helper be treated as basically just a pickup? If you stop the player train, back up and add a helper, then go forward, does the helper provide additional power to the player consist, or will it just be so much more dead weight? Jul-16-01, 06:59 PM (EST) 10. "RE: No Longer ready to uninstall" I finished going all the way through Scott Stevenson's tutorial and now have a very nice test activity and am ready to start creating my own again. The only problem I had with his excellent tutorial was the type face which I quickly corrected to 12 point and added double spacing. Easier on the old eyes....Thanks, Scott, if you read this forum.ron

Jul-16-01, 11:20 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Ready to uninstall" I am 59. The first thing to go is your mind. I forget what the second one is. BTW Has anyone found a missing GP38. I forgot where I left it. I have only poked at the Editor but I am afraid I will screw up my system. It took me over a week to get MSTS to work and it runs perfectly now. I don't want to fix something that is not broken. Jul-16-01, 07:22 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Ready to uninstall" Don't worry. I'll be happy to design an activity or route for you at the incredibly reasonable rate of $55 per hour. Just let me know what you want.KingJPWPS: This is a joke. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-16-01, 07:45 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Ready to uninstall" You have just got to "hang" in there. I have spent the past three weeks just trying to get the thing to run on my PC.The wife and kids will not come near me nor will the animials. I was just about ready to give up, when I found the answer. It has got to be worth it after all this effort.I have all thease youngsters running around my work who could have fixed it in 2 seconds, but I am not going to give in to them, if they can do it so can I at 53.
