Hi,Quite a long story. In the Activity Guide, done by Rich Garber and avaible at Abacus, you will find a detailed description. In short, you need to create Events. When they are not visible, choose Windows from the menu and put checkmarks for the several Events.Let's do a simple pick up and drop.First create a Location event on the place where the user needs to go after he completed the job.
After you choose new, you get a circle attached to your mouse and need to click on the place where you want to have it.
When you want to cancel, rightclick somewhere on the map and a button Cancel appears.
When you have placed the Location event, fill in the triggered and untriggered text. Triggered is when the player hits the event and untriggered is when the player ends the Activity with the Esc key.In Outcome, you can do several things as putting up a message or in this case "Complete Activity successfully"
Note that you can increase the number of Outcomes by adding up the number.
Set the Activation Level to -1.
At 1, the Event is activated, so at -1 it is not activity, even if the player goes over it.
I'll come to this later on.Now put a consist of cars on the spur where they must be picked up.
Create a new Action Event and choose Pickup cars
Push the Add button and click on the first car. Repeat this for every car.
This is bit tedious as you cannot see what cars you already have clicked. So keep some record on a note next to your keyboard. You can delete cars in the car window of the Action Event. But to my experience, it's really possible to ruin the Activity with this actions.Let the Activation level at 1.
Fill in both text fields. And now the outcome
Choose Increase a event's activation level by one and select in the second box the first created location event.
Remember, you set it to -1 and after a successfull pickup, it is 0.
For testing you can add a message as second outcome or if you want, you can put in the message permantly to tell the player that the pickup was successfull. Now create a second Action Event and choose Drop off cars at location. The Editor is asking for the siding where the cars need to be dropped. Travel to that siding and click on the siding mark.
Now choose Add and click on the first car that is to dropped. In this example the first car of the consist. Repeat this for every car.The remaining of the Event is quite the same as the first Action event. And as the outcome is again to increase the level of the Location Event, it is now at 1 and Active! So the player can end the Activity Succesfully.Triggered and Untriggered text are displayed at the summary that appears when the Activity is ended.Well this is only scratching the surface. Play with it.
Download the Activities from some other guys and see how they are constructed. You can give events a more meaningfull name by double clicking them in the events window where they are listed up.Oh and save regularly. The Editor is somewhat buggy.Good luck with creating activities.Dick van den HovenHow do you make a work order? – image 3
