Here's a screenie from the BR sub that I took last night. The Clinchfield loco coming at you is actually an AI loco. What's weird is that the lights are on. Don't AIs usually run without lights? I pass this same loco later on in the activity on a different train and it has no lights. What's even weirder is that I removed the "ditchlights" from this loco's eng file. How in the world did they get turned on? Weird. Everything ran fine, though. . . (Edit: added "later on" and corrected spelling on "activity" )

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

I too have an AI train that surprized me the first time it came down the track, headlight a-blazin' in the rain. Mine is an ATSF GP60; like you, I thought AI trains didn't use the headlight without some serious file modifications. My GP60 is not one of those "AI" locomotives, but a standard "you can drive it" model I got in the library.Looks cool, though.MC

Clayton, I have seen this several times. I first noticed it on the Florida Special activity. It was on your CRR U36. I have seen the lights on going south, and off going south. So I dont know what turns it on and off. I think the same loco as a traffic train had the lights off going north. At first I though it was just a fluke but since I have seen other loco's with a headlight on once in awhile. But allways its on the BR sub. I dont know if it is just a BR sub thing. Has anyone ever seen this on other routes?????Phil Senteraka

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

I have seen an AI train with it's lights on in the Whitefish Freight Pull activity (Marias31). This train was Justin's SD40. I replaced all of my BNSF defaults with Justin's models. This was the only AI locomotive that had it's lights on. I wonder if there is a way to figure out how this is happening? I started looking at the engine files to see if there is a difference in the lighting, but so far nothing.Edward K.

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

Nothing weird about it. (Many 3rd party locos include this feature) This is a designer's choice and can easily be edited in the .ENG file following the instructions from the link Bing provided. This also goes for rear marker lights also. You can essentially use any lights on AI loco's or cars. except for sphere of light. MSTS only allows them on the active locos and then only one at a time. (You can have a separate definition for off, dim and full settings) Check out NALW work. They all include this feature, as does many others like Dyvach's Acela replacement models.

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

Yes. And the rear flashers are invariably in the wrong position. You can change this by fiddling with the x,y,z coordinates. x = left and right; y = equals up and down; z = closer and farther away. What we need is a "Tweaking Eng and Wag Files for Fun and Profit". BIng

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

Actually, yes it is weird because in this activity, my train passes this loco two times (on two different AI trains). On one occasion, the lights are lit. On the other, they are dead. Thanks for the link, though, guys- -that's pretty handy!

RE: Weird AI traffic headlights

Actually that sounds like a known problem in MSTS where the lights are not visable at certain angles. If this is the problem you would see this in the active loco also. This is more prevelent when the Display colors is set to 32 bit. Setting the sim to 16 bit helps a lot, and you won't notice the difference!
