I have AI traffic coming into a terminal station. Yet, if I sit and watch it, after it's done loading/unloading it continues on and would run into the buffers if it didn't disappear entirely from existence, having reached the end point of its path. How do I make it just stop and stay put? I tried making it's arrival and departure times (seperately) like three hours in advance, but it seems to ignore these. If this is a FAQ, please point me to the relevant thread, thank you very much.

To my knowledge there is no direct way to tell an AI train to "just sit there." There could have been if the Waiting Point feature worked, but it appears not to pay any attention to how many seconds you tell it to wait.So you are left with arranging a kluge. Is there a signal ahead of it at the end of the platform that you can trick into being red? How about one behind it... put a reverse point but have the signal behind it be red. Also, a very gentle collision with a loose consist will usually halt an AI train... the problem there is getting the train to enter the block at all if there is a car in it (although sometimes this will work). If you can stand having the whole train disappear for a second, you could have your train disappear as it stops at the platform, and replaced one second later by a clone AI train that has a cloned engine with 0 horsepower and 0 maximum speed (although that still might creep forward slowly).

You're right. I thought of wait points last night as I went to bed, and this morning the AI does seem to totally ignore them. However ... see below for an elegant answer!

Another kludge that might work would be to increase the number of passengers waiting at the platform to some enormous value. Haven't tried this myself, though.Rob.

Hooray! This works!I set the platform to 80,000 passengers and the AI just sits there forever, just like it should! Thanks!

Whole idea is new to me. I haven't played or built activities on routes with multiple platforms, such as Washington D.C. or Philly on the NEC, much, but can you set each platform (track) to a different passenger value? I thought that was a "station" value, where every track into or through the station was set to the same value. Hope I'm wrong, as that would open up a whole new realm of activity ideas and ways to "hold" trains at stations!(added during edit)Get outta my way folks! I gotta try this out!!!

Yes, you can set a passenger value for each platform. And, yes, I've already used this to tweak departure times on trains to get exactly the results I want. Works like a charm! Just recalculate carefully.

I made the AI train to sit indeed forever like this on the FBL2:I created the path for and AI train and then took it on a signalled siding.I placed a reversing point on the path right in front of an absolute STOP signal, only a few feet away or so. Then I ended the path immediately after the reverse point was set up.Now, as the AI train approaches the signal, it will slow down and stop some two-three car lengths before the signal. It will stay there waiting for a clear signal. The trick this:
1. The path does not pass the signal. The signal will stay red forever. (move forward to item 2.)2. The train cannot reach the reverse point becouse the signal is red. (return to item 1)In fact, the poor old train will sit there and wait -- and wait -- and wait.Check the "Eastbound Coal Train For Full Bucket Line 2" in Activity Editor. It has two dead-end-signalled AI trains: one that leaves ahead of the player train (Hope's End Local), and the one that leaves Lake Hurst Yard towards Newton before player train reaches Lake Hurst.Of course, forcing a train to wait for 8.000.000 passengers is a heck of a way to stop even the hottest intermodal!
