I recently aquired the Kicking Horse Pass route. It is my understanding that this route is set in the late 80s. I have downloaded some CP stuff (SD90MACs and AC4400s) and would like to use these locos to "upgrade" the default Kicking Horse Pass consists and activities to modern-day prototypical consists. So - what kind of locos do the modern-day CP use on the different types of trains that is included in the KHP pack? Is the rolling stock still prototypical - if not, what should I add/remove (Doublestack container cars, autoracks)? Do the CP still use cabooses?

From what I know that is here on train-sim here is your list.the CP AC4400's ya got, they are quite common, SD90's no so much common, but they are there (AC's outnumber the SD's immensely).Get some Auto Racks, get some Doublestack cars (there are CP ones in the library, TTX ones work anywhere so get those too).Cabooses, are gone. So adding them to consists would be pointless. (Correct me if I am wrong Harold). As well, grab the CEFX AC4400CW, put it in behind a CP AC4400CW and it will fit right in, since they are leasing a whack of those.

Thanks for the info. Another thing - what kind of locos would be prototypical on what kind of trains? I understand that in the US, the UP mainly use e.g. SD90MACs on intermodal trains, and AC4400CWs on coal trains, with SD40s mainly for local trains and as helpers. What's it like for the CP? And what with the SD40s? Should I get rid of everything but the 'Red Barns' (which I assume would be prototypical even in a modern-day setting, given that they are fairly new (less than 20 years old I believe?)) or keep most of the SD40s as well?

SD40-2's are still used... 90%of trains i see in eastern canada are all sd40-2's. But they probably still wander out west so you should keep 'em.So keeping SD40-2's would be prototypical. Download some in the dual flags scheme and a few beaver ones from the library there around as well.
I spent a week in Banff this august, and my first thought when I got back was to do exactly what Trainfreak proposed - start running modern day locos. What I'd like to do is pull together a modern CP file set based on the AC4400's uploaded to the file library this fall, plus the SD90 and modern rolling stock. Then I'd like to update the existing activities to use the modern equipment and consists, and then put it all together in a downloadable pack. This is all quite a bit of work, and quite beyond my skills..here's a picture of a AC4400 I took in Field in August.
