Anybody ever figure out what the consist-file parameters MaxVelocity() and Durability() are for? There was some speculation about these in a few posts earlier this year and I was wondering if any further discoveries have been made.At first glance from their names these parameters should be self-explanatory. Here are some of the arguments given to these parameters in consists supplied with MSTS...GP-38
MaxVelocity ( 36.65728 0.42236 )
Durability ( 0.43500 )Orient Express
MaxVelocity ( 26.82240 0.41275 )
Durability ( 0.08500 )Looks like the maximum allowable values are... MaxVelocity ( 100.00000 1.00000 )
Durability ( 1.00000 )...but I say so only because I haven't seen anything higher. Maximum values of 1.0 suggest to me they might be percentages. Has anyone made sense of these numbers? What are the engineering units? What specific effects do they have in the game? Does MaxVelocity effect train physics, as opposed to locomotive physics, in some way? I believe the first number in MaxVelocity is always 0.0 for static consists. But you can always couple your train to a static consist, so it should affect the train -- assuming the MaxVelocity numbers are even supposed to have an effect on the train. Seems to me that coupling more cars just adds more mass and more friction. The effects of this are contained in the WAG file parameters Mass() and Adheasion() (sic). The maximum velocity of the train should depend on what the particular locomotive is capable of doing, given the current mass and friction of the consist as well as track conditions such as curvature, incline and moisture/ice.I suppose the Durability value only comes into play when you exit an activity and your report card says in effect that your consist is now full of damaged goods or your passengers are threatening to sue. What are reasonable numbers?Rick Grout
