Perhaps not the best place to ask, but I see Clem and Edouard on here from time to time and I don't speak French well enough to go to a French forum. On routes in France that run the Duplex, does the Duplex typically take up Standard or Direct timetables? Do they still run Reseau on these routes or is it 100% Duplex?I could see it both ways, but my fanciful guess would be that Duplex takes Standard routes and less people want Direct service and as such those are still maintained by Reseau. But, I could see it the other way with some thought. Do doubles still run at all on Duplex routes? I imagine due to present lack of Duplex units this might be a possibility, but I see they're ordering more, so what might future plans be?Merci beaucoup.

RE: Question about TGV patterns

Yeah, I practically live and breathe TGVweb already and the closest I believe it comes is a statement like "on PSE they run as close together as every 3 minutes".Thank you very much for your consideration, though.

RE: Question about TGV patterns/Duplex on tv

Hi there again, saw an interesting piece on the bbc tv news today covering the awful state of the UK railsystem , the west coast mainline especially .
What was interesting to us TGV fans was a section in the report actually ON a duplex on the LGV Med. To cut to the chase the duplex passed a clem style reseau going the other way , so we know some Reseau's and presumeably Thalys and Atlantiques still run .
As an activity builder it would be real nice to know how many Duplex's run compared to the single decker reseau's .. jv

RE: Question about TGV patterns/Duplex on tv

Well, certainly all types run on all lines still for quite a few years until enough Duplexes are ordered and older models are retired. (IIRC, PSE's aren't even completely retired yet!) Specifically for LGVMed, I doubt Thalys's run that far.Very interesting information from that documentary, nonetheless. Now that LGVMed 2.0 is finally out, and we've lost many of our 1.1/1.0 activities, I'll definitely be doing something soon. Whether or not it'll be related to reality ...

RE: Question about TGV patterns/Duplex on tv

Hi,Very good idea to write LGVMed V2.0 activities Although my English is probably as bad as your French, maybe I can give you some additional info:- On the LN5, I'm seeing more and more Duplex, today I think the proportion is at least 2/3 Duplex 1/3 Reseau (or renewed TGV Sud Est that look like Reseau). I have never seen another TGV type on this route, although a friend of mine sent me a photo of a Thalys on the north Angles viaduct at Avignon (so this happened at least one time)!- There are more and more double units ("UM" = Unite Multiple in French), Duplex and Reseau.- Most TGV stop at Avignon (the most current path is Marseille-Avignon-Paris in both directions), and some at Aix and Valence. This does not seem related to the TGV type.I hope this will help you,
Luc

RE: Question about TGV patterns/Duplex on tv

I assure you your English is far better than my French. I only had a year of it in School several years ago and am currently studying Japanese (to further add to confusion).Thank you very much for your traffic information, it will be very useful. I'm in progress on creating a relatively high traffic activity. As per our email, I'll be sending you a very early version soon.I have another question that I'm sure others would be interested in. What are the SEI actually for? I'm guessing they're sidings for taking broken-down units off of the mainline (they seem about long enough). Anything else? In what kind of situation might one be used? Do they sit empty most of the time, or might we see a diesel pusher or such sitting there waiting? Thanks again for all your hard work!

RE: Question about TGV patterns/Duplex on tv

This time, I think you are putting my English to the test SEI stands for "Systeme d'Enclenchement Interne" and here is my word for word translation: Internal Engagement System (I know "engagement" means rendez vous, but I hope it's also a mechanical term)... Lets try another: "Automatic Switching System", which may be better.SEI are so called because they are remote-controlled by PRCI (arg, another one)!PRCI ("Poste tout Relais de Commande Informatique") means "Traffic Control Computer Center".Well, now that we have the definitions, we can speak like civilized men : all SEI of the route from Marseilles to Valence are remote-controlled by the PRCI of Marseilles St Charles, which is inside St Charles station buildings. People here can configure and/or change the TGV route in realtime by sending messages to SEI (so there is no need for people at SEI).Your supposition about broken-down units is good, but SEI have other purposes:- SEI allow TGV to be switched to the left or right track in case of maintenance on a track section or accident.
- SEI are the places where track and catenary maintenance units are parked, so you often see these yellow units here. They work only at night and I suppose they only have time to go from a SEI to another in a single night.Unfortunately, none of these units are currently modelled under MSTS but, as they are mainly yellow diesel units, maybe you can find something similar in Chris Longhurst's rolling stock... He has a lot of yellow trains If I find a photo of one of this "things", I'll send it to you.
In the meantime, good luck and many thanks for your activities,
Luc
