Coupling to an A.I. train works! – image 1

I always thought this didn't work...On a route, which only has signalling in one direction:Simply reverse and couple to the A.I. train waiting at the red signal behind you. Coupling to an A.I. train works! – image 2
let's see how this can be used...Greetings,
Roni

I really hope the "train behind you" doesn't have more path, or else...

That's not the problem, it has to have more path or else it would disappear before you can couple it to your train! From the moment it gets attached to your train it seems to behave like a normal static coach/consist (when you uncouple it again, it simple stays there forever). But I still have to run more tests on that.Greetings,
Roni

actually i figured this out a while agon when i met up with an AI on the PO&N. We were both staring eachother in the face and i finally said "the hell with it" and coupled to it and pushed it back the way it came!Coupling to an A.I. train works! – image 6

You can also make an AI train couple on your train. It works if you put a series of waiting points where the AI must couple and it's running uphill (expected performance sat to minimum as well). It takes some practise, and trial and error before you spot a good place, but it add some to the realism. It's hard with helper trains because they have so much power surplus, it's easier with a heavy train.

Man, Roni, and here I thought you were paying attention, that's old news.http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=11521&forum=DCForumID3 I went thru a bunch of gyrations trying to get it to start up again, but once I coupled onto it, it was no longer an AI train, but a loose consist.Other crazy things to try:http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=12611&forum=DCForumID3 http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=12672&forum=DCForumID3

Sniper,You probably remember some time ago when Jim Stevens use to post here. Most of his posts stuck in my mind, but one of them I do remember was when he was describing an activity where an AI train would come in, detach from the cars and proceed. It is too bad that he did not share the details. I don't know if this was done using inside information he had access to, but I wonder if this can be done by modifying the activity files after they are created. Who knows, maybe the activity editor in MTS2 will have this ability.Edward K.

RE: Coupling to an A.I. train works!

Sorry I'm late to the party. Some hilarious stuff in this (and linked) threads. As for uses for coupling to an AI train....
Seems to me one could create a special car that appears to be a freight car but is actually an engine. Make this the AI train (or pulling even more cars) and let it be a 'runaway', hauling down the track with no apparent engine. Your job as the player is to catch up to it, couple on, and bring it to a stop at some convenient location.Only glitch is that the runaway might stop at a red signal.... but presumably that can be prevented in the activity design.
