I often download activities with rolling stock and locos and consists that I don't have. Can I open the apk file into one directory (not in the MSTS folder) and replace the stock and locos and consists with ones that I have?ozace50
No. It will only unpack to the default location. You can use conbuilder to redo the consists. However you can screw up the activity by doing this. The activity was designed for the engines and cars in the consists. If you redo the consists you can throw off the timimg and if the activity requires that cars be picked up or dropped off you could change the car numbers as the sim sees them and never get activity completed successfully.Kevin Arceneaux gdapia
You can open an apk file into a virgin folder if you want and it isn't difficult. Let's say, for example, you want to load a new activity into USA2 and want to check what is going to be distributed where.MOVE the USA2 folder to a safe placeCreate a new folder in ROUTES called USA2 COPY the .tdb and the .trk files (one of each) from the original folder into the new folderClick the apk file and let it do its stuffNote that you do NOT need to make up folders for the services etc. as the apk fiile will create those. You can then study the contents of the files required and make any alterations you want to. Then copy or move the the created folders for services etc. to the original route DELETE the temporary route folder you createdMOVE the original folder back into the ROUTES folderand Robert's your mother's brother.Never really thought about it until I saw this thread but tried it and it works just fine.BUT I totally agree with Kevin that it could screw up the activity if you do this for the reasons he has given. However, it can be done if you want/need to.Bill
Thanks to both of you for your replies. The only reason that I would want to do it is when the activity uses equipment that no one else uses - the equipment then sits there forever (or until I delete it) and clogs up the hard drive.I appreciate the work that people put into the activities - many of them are quite ingenious - it's just the issue of the once-off use of equipment. ozace50
